Default ebay heavy duty hatch strut review

I've recently decided to replace my hatch struts since it doesn't stay open with the APR wing. It didn't bother me at first, but after awhile of using a pipe to hold it open, I figured it would be worth it to upgrade the struts. I looked around and saw some expensive upgrades that didn't seem worth the price. I saw a thread on here with someone saying they got some off of ebay, so I searched there and saw one that was a "heavy duty" replacement. I wrote the seller asking if they would hold up a big azz wing, and he said it would. It was 78.99 plus 10 for shipping, so I figured I would give them a try. Got them in the mail today. They looked like a nice set, though I'm no strut expert. Installed them and they do hold up the hatch, no problem. It's cold today too. When I had just one installed, the hatch already stayed up. After I got them both installed, once you open the hatch about half way, they lift it up the rest of the way. Works pretty good for me. The seller's name is invotekken on ebay in case anyone wants to search it.

I don't think they are refurbs. The description states that they are new.

No stages. It just says "heavy duty" as far as strength descriptions go.

invotekken is the seller's name. Yeah, there is a lot of blah blah blahs on this site. People will tell you what they think would happen before they give you any helpful advise from experience.

Sometimes it is better to do what you did, (take the risk). For that price, if it did not work out, that would not be the end of you. Good luck

For the price, I figured it wouldn't hurt to test them out. The description did say there was a lifetime warranty on them. Not sure what the replacement procedure is, but that's what it said.

Yeah, it did come with brackets. The first pic is exactly what comes out of the box once you unwrap them. They were packed up pretty well too.

How did you work the brackets to get yours to mount up?

i got the nismo v1 wing, and my stock struts were gone within a couple of weeks. i upgraded to the heavy duty ones from the dealer about 2 years ago, and they are just now starting to go weak. i wonder if these ebay ones will last that long? I open the rear hatch once or twice a week on average. Guess I'll have to try them out.

Interesting, I wasn't aware eBay had replacement hatch struts. +1 on a lot of the blah blah blah here. It looks like it worked out for you though, OP.

I'm planning on getting a pair from www.350zhatchshocksandmore.com sometime soon.

Looking at the pics of zhatchshocks...com, they look just like the ones I got. Compare the pics I attached in the first post and the ones on the site. They both have composite/plastic around the mounting locations. I have better pics of the ends of the struts too. I'll post them up so everyone can get a closer view.

First and second pics are of the mounting areas with the composite parts. Third pic is of a comparison of the pax side strut when it was removed beside the new one before install. The one with composite ends is of course the new one. Like I said, it looks very similar to the ones on hatchstruts...com.

bought one too! If anyone want one, here is the seller ebay store:

http://shop.ebay.com/invotekken/m.ht..._from=&_ipg=25

I have an aftermarket Stillen V1 spoiler and every time I press the button on the remote to pop the trunk, it wont open all the way. I would have to press the button on the trunk again while using the other hand to move the hatch up.. Very annoying. Hopefully this will fix the problem.
