Default 350Z Head light Timer!!!

hey guys
i need to know if there is any way to change the timing on head lights.
i know on some modern cars like toyota, lexuse, Bmw... the head light will automatically will turn off if the key is not in ignition.(after maybe 10 sec.)
in my 2005 350z it will turn the light off but after 45secs, if i forget to turn it off manually.
i am thinking there should be some way to change the timing.
any idea?????

No way to change it. It's set at 5 minutes, not 45 seconds.

It's not too hard to build a crude timer circuit with a relay and some capacitors. You'd have to put it in the wiring going to the lights.

The relay would close when the ignition is turned on, and the capacitors would be charged up. When the ignition is turned off, the charge stored in the capacitors would hold the relay closed until the charge bleeds off. The time delay is changed by adding capacitors.

Total cost would probably be about $10, and all the parts are available on Ebay or any good electronic parts store.

actually you can change it.

bring it to nissan and they would charge you 90 bux to put it on their consult system and change it to however seconds or minutes you want.

well atleast that is what they told me.

I had no idea the lights went off automatically. Since I've been driving, I turn the lights on when I get in the car & off when I turn off the car. It's completely become force-of-habit.

It's not really a auto-off feature like some luxury cars have. It's considered a "battery saver" more than an auto-off feature. If you leave the lights on and exit the car, the warning chimes are dinging at you. Auto off lights don't do that because they know they are going off shortly (60-90 seconds). The Z lights stay on for 5 minutes, that's a lot of battery load.

Just turn em off..I'm sure twisting the light on and off is a LOT less work than changing the timing
