03 350z. Hid problem need help asap
Ok I have the factory hids. My headlights had sun damage so I bought the anzos. Thinking they were hid compatible. They use h1 and h7 bulbs which pretty much tells me they were meant for halogen bulbs. I have the d2r bulbs on it and can't see a dayum thing. I can see 15 feet ahead of me. Maybe 20. I have 8000k eBay bulbs. Cheap. I'm wondering if my visibility is awful do to the bulbs or is it the set up wit the factory hid and anzos? I'm gonna buy the 06 bixenons but in a month or two. Since there crazy expensive. So I need these for now. So the help that I need is some advise. Will getting h7 hid bulbs with the d2r adaptor make it any better? Also can I adjust the headlight?will that make any diff? Any feed back will help. Oh yea and I threw away the wire harness the lights came with so i have to stick to the hid harness for now
HID natural color temp is around 4100k; anything higher will reduce the lumens. If you go above 6k I believe it's an exponential degradation of brightness, therefore 8k will greatly reduce the lumens. It may not be just the bulbs, but they certainly do not help the problem.
I would do retro I just don't have the time. That's why I rather just buy them. It seems like it has a cutoff but it's like of it's aiming down. Wen I lift the headlight or tilt it upwards it looks better that's y I was asking if adjust it the projector off the anzo headlights would help? And it seems like the left side is way stronger than the right which is another reason I don't have a great light output. I was thinking of just rettrofitting the stock 03 projectors since it seems to be the same size and won't take so long . Would that fix the issue?
You have D2R's in a H1 or H7 halogen headlamp? Assuming the bulb base even seats properly, the focal point is different for halogens vs. HID bulbs. I'm sure this is a big portion of your issue, as the light is out of focus.
Next best thing is to get a set of H1 or H7 HID kit bulbs, hopefully it will have the focal point in the correct location and you'll be okay. You'll have to buy some adapter cables too, to switch from OEM D2R/D2S connector from your OEM ballasts to the aftermarket HID plugs.
Also as others have said I don't recommend going over 6000K, you do lose light output and the more color, the more rice it is labeled.
If you get a little extra time and are adventurous, you can retrofit some bixenon projectors. I've installed some BMW M3 E46's into my 2004 headlamps. They are stock 4100K bulbs with about 2 years on them. I'm thinking of going to a 50W HID kit and 5000K. Anyway...
