Default How to choose a body kit?

Ok, I'm in the market to purchase a body kit, but I am having trouble deciding on what brand to go with or even where to buy it. I have read alot of articles about that some require alot of adjustments and drilling, etc.... Are there any brands that make kits that actually bolt right on, or any that good about not having any adjustment? Is this also one of the cases of, you pay for what you get, as in quality, I figure the more you spend the better it looks, or are they pretty much the same as they are molds? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

There are many kits that bolt right up. Most of the time the authentic pieces are the ones that work perfectly. The "replica" pieces are the ones that will require work to make fit but sometimes not. I've heard that "Shine Auto Project" makes really good fitments but their stuff is replica's. I believe authentic pieces will be polyurethane/re-enforced plastic and replica's will be fiberglass (FRP) and I hate fiberglass. There is a web site a guy made for everybody...trying to find it...

1. Order a replica from an unknown seller.

2. After 3 months and you do not have a kit, post a complaint here.

3. Finally after 6 months you will get the kit, and the body shop says it does not fit. Post a complaint here.

4. The seller will blame it on the manufacturer. "It is not out responsibility."

Ha! How many times have we seen that! Keep in mind though, that some "authentic" kits may take a while if there are none in country. I've had to wait for pieces from Japan for 2-3 months before.

You will do fine with a kit. Visit a local shop and talk with the staff. You will find reputable collision repair shops who will not touch a kit - any kit. Too much trouble.

Go to 350Z meets. Talk with those who have kits that you like.

this is truth. be ready to pay whatever is needed for the kit. this is not a job where you can get a quote and the shop will just stick to the original quote. they have no idea how much prep work will be needed for the kit you select, and neither do you, know matter how good it looks : )

out of all the local places I checked out, only two shops were willing to take on the job. if it's not OEM it's not easy money for them..

even shine products require a lot of prep work.

set a budget, be prepared for the total cost, many people underestimate the cost of prep and paint!

also consider how and where you'll be driving your car, i.e. daily driver? going to meets/cruises/shows?

i chose my kit because it looked great to me, it was urethane, and it didn't sit too low which helps me drive around my pothole-filled town with ease and clear the big hump when i go in and out of my high driveway
