Rear seat mounts? ... weight reduction?
I just got the latest Import Tuner mag in the mail and in it, there's an article on a 350z vs a 370z. Both were modded, yadda yadda yadda but the part that got me was it mentioned that during the 350z's weight cutting, the owner took out the support brackets and mounts for the rear seats. It went on to explain that even though a 2 + 2 wasn't available in the US, they still had mounts and supports under the carpet and stuff. Any body heard anything about this or no how to do it? I did a little searching but came up short. Forgive me if I missed a big obvious write up some where. When I get home, I'll quote the mag article.

Where in the hell, and why, would they put rear seat mounts to begin with? And as far as I know, there is no 2+2 available anywhere, not just the U.S.
Edit - thanks for the link, I guess you learn something new every day.

Extracted from article ---- "USDM Zs didn't come with the 2+2 design the Japanese ones did that included rear seats," Costa explains, "but the sheetmetal reinforcements and mounts for hinges and seatbelts are still there." Removing them, along with harmonic weights mounted at points on the Z's chassis to decrease NVH-a 6x6x6-inch square chunk of steel in the right rear corner of the trunk, another on the front core support, and a smaller one attached to the trans mount-shed another 100 pounds.
I guess they offered a 2+2 in Japan??? I remember reading on here about Jap police using Zs that had back seats but that could've been BS. Either way, if there's metal mounts and support brackets and crap I don't need, I want them gone.

there was never a 2+2 version of a 350Z or 370Z in this country, Japan, or any other country.
the Z32 (300ZX), as well as all models dating back to the 260Z (S30), had 2+2 varients however

Well then the auther of this and the guy that he quoted both FAIL. AND... they got my hopes up. I thought I found a genuine way to delete like 100lbs of useless stuff. What poop-faces!
There is a weighted bolt on the trans. mount that could potentially be replaced by a regular bolt and a washer. I figured it was there for a reason and that 2 lbs wouldn't matter.
But a 2+2 350Z is about as common as a fire-breathing, amphibious, vampire unicorn.
