Default customizing taillights

I would like to get some feedback on this.

I am thinking of trying to customizing the taillights somehow.
Always wanting to be alittle different

I was thinking about painting part of the lens, the same color as the body.
That part I want to paint, is the long part that goes across the quarter panel, and leave just the part of the light you see from the back.

Looking at the lines on the car, I would use the line where the bumper and quarter panel meet, and go straight up, and then curve forward, going to about where the side reflectors are on the light, which would put that curve to meet up with the curve of the rear hatch.

I know it is hard to relay this without a picture. Maybe someone could Photoshop a picture, as I am not very good.

For paint I would use a base coat/clear coat urethane. Basing the part with the color of the body as I mention, and then clearing the whole light, so there would be no line felt.

What do you guys think ?

Bad idea ?

I thought of doing the same thing, but after further considering it, I realize the shape of the taillights go really well with the lines of the car. I think making them look smaller makes the back look alot bigger than it already is. Best of Luck on your project.

your plan sounds ok... with some attention to detail. but the final product.... naw I like the shape of the tail lights.

and itd also be illegal I think, as it covers the reflector part.

Ugh! I agree with everybody else in saying that the taillights are a big part of the car's styling and painting (as you've described) really detracts (BIG TIME) from the appearence.

I'm still waiting (patiently) for ares to come up with a fully lit triangular taillight section. THAT would enhance the 350Z's styling, IMHO.

You are making the Z look like a Maxima with those taillights...

Personally, I wouldn't do it, again, i think the stock lights go well with the lines of the car, shapewise, i wouldn't mind changing the inside of the lights though (i.e. LED's and stuff) but overall shape i would not change it.

But to each it's own...

just use vinyl, it's less permanent, so if you don't like it you can remove it
