Default My CF Bumper project

Well this has been a project of mine working on it here and there for the last year or so in my free time. The first pic is the bumper that was on my Z when I got it. My Dad was driving my Z and wasnt used to how low it is and cracked the bottom part of the bumper. I got a few estimates on it and decided not to pay the $200 and just sell it, big mistake. I paid to have it bubble wrapped perfectly because I couldnt find a box that big. I sent it to a member on the forum and during shipment it got raped, or so he said. I agreed to accept the return and he shipped it back to me, however I am not sure if he packaged very well as it was returned to me basically destroyed. I tried taking it up with DHL but had little to no luck. It was cracked everywhere and the corners where it mounts were completely broken off. So, I let it sit in the garage for a while before I decided to attempt to fix it.
I have never used fiberglass or bondo or anything of that sort so it was all a learning process. I used fiberglass and resin to totally reform the sides and then sanding and bondo all over the other parts, mostly reinforcing it from the back with fiberglass. What really inspired me was a buddy of mine has a very nice spray gun so I decided, what the hell, lets paint it, plus he had the primer and clear already, all I had to do was buy the paint. I have attached pics before primer, primer coat, painting and the final result. All in all I am very pleased with the final result considering. Let me know what you guys think.

Kudos, It's a very good job for your first time with FG/bondo. The only thing i would say from the pics is, it looks like it needs to be professionally buffed to take the orange peel. it doesnt look like it would need more than that. If it does a light wet sand with 2000 grit and a buff would look perfect!
Amazing for first time! wanna paint my car?

I bet that was a rewarding feeling bringing it back to that condition. Also, those CF inserts in the emblem fade quick! If they are the same ones I had that is.

confused here.....

Where are the pics of damage from DHL? I mean it looks to me like you just took off the CF lip and sanded down the bumper for a respray. Also, where is the CF as stated in the title of your thread? The only CF I see is from your Dad cracking it.

Thanks for the responses guys, the whole entire bumper is carbon fiber, it is one piece, no lip added. I just taped off sections and painted them, such as behind the emblem, thats the bumper with clear coat, not just an emblem Advan.

Thats a thought, I am not really too worried about how it looks considering how bad it looked. Also, I put the clear on really light so it wouldnt run. Can I sand and buff it right away?

unfortunately I cant find any of the really bad pics of the bumper when I got it back from DHL but I did find a few more of the damage to the lip. As you can see, some of the damage was all the way to the CF weave.

As long as you can push on your bumper with your thumb and not leave a finger print in the clear you can buff it.

Nothing really difficult to it, look at all the high school dropouts that work in the body shop. It just takes time and patience.
