i want to put a glossy black vinyl on the roof of my 08 PPW. i looked around at some sites, but have no idea about reputation or reliability so i thought i'd come here and ask.



anyone work with vinyl roofs before and would like to chime in?

just get it paint gloss black. Cost me $50 with local paint shop! came out great!

 

Is that your car in the picture? If so, save your money on other mods first. Black roof on a stock Z looks...meh.

i have mine painted gloss black.. go with paint.. i did a overlay first like u were thinking and its just a waste of money.. have it painted..looks way better..

 

damn sick Z man. how much does it cost on average to get it painted? and dude i've always liked that front center lip part painted black or cf. any info on that? like price, how you did it, what is it called even.

 

i got it painted from a friend who works at a local dealership body shop. It was a hook up price too!! My car was in & out less in than 2 hrs!!! Came out great also!

 

theres a vendor on the Souther Cali regional forum that does this.You might want to hit him up.

 

i personally wouldnt paint it.. because if and when you realize its gay you cant take it off.. it only works on the blue or silver imo.

i tried it with vinyl first and realized it looked rice and took it off shortly after. but that's just my opinion. also wrapped side mirrors and lip with vinyl. same thing with the mirrors, thought it was ricey and ripped it off. kept the lip though.

vinyl is easy peasy to put on if you have the patience and doesn't cost that much. there's some members/vendors on here that do it and sell it, hit up the search function. there's probably at least 5 threads that have popped up in the past 2 weeks with vinyl roof in the title

I put a gloss black overlay on my roof, because I wanted to make sure I liked it before painting it. It looks good, but I will eventually paint it for a smoother look.

 

Several of our members have done the vinyl roof and posted DIY threads.

I have to agree with this. I have seen the black roof look really nice on several cars, but it would look a little odd as the only exterior mod you have.

He has another exterior mod on his car, the s2k antena!

 

I was going to say that I think they look good most of the time, but I have to agree with this -- not if it's the only exterior mod.
