Default HID base model ???

I would like to install an HID kit for my base model. I have found a Hella HID kit that includes:

A real set of Hella HID's complete with ballasts, wires, bulbs. They are 8000K or 6000K bulbs. Come with 10 year warranty

This kit is for $380. Would all I need is that kit to convert my headlights to HIDs?

Is the installation pretty hard? Curious. If anyone has any experience or knows anything about hella kits share.

Jun on the boards has installed HIDs on his Z. Find him (PM) and he could give you some advice.

that would be me!

Anyway, yeah, all you need is what you mentioned above. Installation is pretty straight forward, might take a while at first if you are not familiar with the car yet (as in removing bumper, etc). The only part that was time consuming for me was covering up the hole that i made to connect the wire to the bulb.

Zred is the one that explained to me how to do it, so i give him credit for my installation.

i went with a set from an Audi TT.

*** for the rear, i think you might have to take the rear bumper for that one, not sure though. i'll let you know in a little bit, or maybe someone else can volunteer to give their thoughts.

ok, by clear corners do you mean the little light bulb under the projectors which are the parking lights? for those i think you can just take the wheel out and pull the fender wall to change the bulb.

yes, i believe once you have the ballast it is just a matter of switching bulbs if you want to change the temperature of the light.

8000K is WAY TOO much color - Lumens (brightness) will really suffer as a result.

Agreed - 4700-6000k is more reasonable and still pretty reasonable.

Hey guys,

Just want to be sure. I have a base model and thinking of getting hid kit as well.

What are the specs should I look for?
-H7 or 9006?
-D2S or D2R bulbs?

Im looking at Ebay and there are some that says H7 but bulb type is D2S. Isn't ours D2R?

Thanks

any thoughts on the need (or not) to upgrade or replace wiring for the base to HID conversion?

Thanks!

kbomb:
H7. D2R because our headlights are a combination of reflector/projector headlights, rather than purely projectors.
Go here for more info.

SteveZ:
No need to upgrade the wires. Stock wires will work fine.
