Oh man.

I guess G-d intended for the Z to never have a roof rack....

Just put your bike in the trunk, it fits. This pic is my Jamis XCT1 19inch frame MTB, drove from Vegas to Texas like that, also had all my clothing etc etc for a 6 week stay. The bike is still in the trunk, takes me 5 minutes to assemble when i get to the trailhead.

If i was keeping my Z as a DD i would probably buy a boofsquired rack, but no need and i also have my beater truck back home to cart the toys around.

Man...I know its just a car and all but I would go crazy if I put in that many scratches in my trunk. At least put a blanket around it to protect the panels

agreed. i don't have an issue putting the bike in the trunk...but it seems as if the tear down and set up of a bike rack is much faster than having to place towels around the interior panels of the car and carpet while disassembling the bike to get it all in there. Not to mention this completely reduces the amount of trunk space to carry other items and limits me to only transporting 1 bike and 0 passengers.

great idea if i'm solo for 1 day. not so great to go with the g/f or a friend with 2 bikes.

I doubt i have even put a scratch in the trunk from the bike. I do have a blanked in there now to protect the bike from its components that are removed. My Z is just a car, its not a show car, and with all the track time it sees , scratches are not much of a concern to me.

not ready to throw $500+ on a roof rack that might not work just yet....

followed your example tarrasmak....

took off wheels, pedals, and stem. flipped seat around, laid down fork and frame right over. then added a towel to put the wheels on top. black towels are underneath the frame too. room for maybe 2 backpacks. there is also a fold up chair in-between the rear strut tower and the rear speaker box.

i guess this will have to do for now...

Yank your reflectors off from the pedals and wheels before you hit the trail, they like to break and leave pieces on the trails. That looks like a 15 or 16 inch frame, it fits no much better than my 19 inch frame. Also cruise over to the MTBR.com forums , great info over there.

Typically i drive my truck, 88 beater Ranger. But i had to drive halfway across the country and my Z has AC and gets 12MPG better. I fit my bike in the back, shoes, riding gear , garment bags , cooler and laptop in the bag with my duffel up front with the rest of my mil gear and civilian clothes.

I dont get the bike rack trend. Yeah theyre good if you want to put a bike on it but half the people i talk to don't even have a BIKE.

Whats next in motoring trend? Luggage racks spoilers from the 80s?

I hope you ride a cheap bike that you don't care about when it goes flipping down the road with the rack attached to it.

Keep reading, you probably don't want a normal roof rack attached to the roof of this car. Unless your not going to put anything on it.
