I got mine off pretty nicely.

I took off the cover for the shifter area and used a wrench wrapped in tape to hold the shift rod(no scratching or bending while twisting), then I threw a towel over the stock ****, used vise grips to tighten it down and turned lefty loosey. Off it came!

I think the vise grips helped a lot. Hope this works for you.

how far did you have to turn it? did it like pop or something? because i turned mine like 90 degrees and it popped right back like it was rubber or something...

No popping. The stock **** is threaded and just screwed onto the rod. It sounds to me like you are turning the whole rod! This is why I used the wrench with the tape to hold it in place. Did you do this? Let me know if you got anymore ???.
