can't tell you anthing about blacking it out, but i just replaced both the front and rear emblems (long story). anyway, the front is held on by double backed tape, thats it. no holes, pins, nothing. you'll just have to get something under it to pry it off. i was able to grab mine with my fingers and pull it off.

i got a lil pocket screwdriver, flat head, and pried mine off then use a rubber eraser wheel and adhesive cleaner to remove the excess tape. i would just use some krylon glosss black or matte. whatever u like. sand it with like 600grit or so before spaying. any rattle can paint would be ok for a emblem just practice getting your gloss right on somthing before spraying emblem.

1)Take a heat gun and hold it over emblem for .5-1 minute, until the glue softens up.
2)Pull off emblem with fingers, or carefully with screwdriver.
3)Remove excess glue with glu gone, or similar product.
4)Paint Emblem, (do multiple coats of clear coat so the paint doesn't chip.)
5)Put emblem back on car with 3m automotive grade adhesive.

This is the paint i used, no sanding required.

Similar, but instead of using a screwdriver, take fishing line or floss to get behind the emblem.

It says no sanding required but as a body tech at a Chevy collision shop i would NEVER spay over a unsanded surface. why not just run some 600-800 over it? cant go wrong with reassurance.

Yeah, this is how I removed my emblems, worked like a charm (no chance of scratching the paint, like when using a screw driver).

Yeah, why not? Thats a good idea just to be sure, even though mine has lasted about a year so far without sanding.
