I have been wondering about this for quite some time. I bought my 06 Z used several months ago, and the area in my front bumper emblem is black, not actually black painted put feels like a paper substance, of sorts. My car is blue, and every other emblem I have seen has the body color in the middle areas of the emblem. Do you suppose this is how the car came new,and no one ever removed this substance, or is it suppose to be like that, on just 06 Z's, since ti was a transition year?
It is possible someone placed some plastic or some other product under the emblem to make the emblem black in the center. When I got my Z in 2003, one of the first things I did was put carbon fiber inserts under the emblems both front and back. It looked pretty cool but I have since replaced the stock emblems with Z emblems. Here is a picture of the carbon fiber insert......
