Default Trunk spring problem.

I am not sure if anyone has run into this problem but on really cold days the spring that keeps the trunk up losses pressure and will not hold the trunk up. Is it just my Z or has anyone else experience the same problem? This only happens on really cold days. Im afraid that it can hurt myself or anyone getting something out of my trunk if I don't warn them. The trunk is pretty heavy if it falls on your head.

Do I make any sense?

Are you meaning "trunk"? And, are you referring to the hatch struts that hold the trunk up--if so, common problem. Just get some new ones and replace.

It's not a spring that holds the hatch open - it's a compressed gas cylinder. And yes, over the years it gets weaker and weaker and the hatch will not stay up, especially when cold.

They're expensive to replace but worth it if you don't like the hatch crashing down on you.

Of course, you could always install some cool rub blocks like these on the struts to keep the hatch from falling on your head.

Yep, this happens every time the temperature drops off in the winter.

Spend a few extra bucks - why go through the hassle of replacing every 3 years to save $50? Spent $120 for mine 3 years ago for my '03 (group buy thru another forum) and they are still tighter than the OEM's when brand new - to say nothing of when they used to smack me in the head when it got cold out, lol. Lots of threads on the subject BTW.

but I guess I shouldn't complain, it's better than you running off people that may one day contribute to the community, like normal.

keep up the good work I guess
