Default Fender rolling nightmare

So, I just lowered my Z on Function Form coilovers. As you can see from the pic below it is not an aggressive drop by any means. I'm running Rpf1's 18x10.5 rears +15 with 285/35 Hankook tires. I went to a local shop last week in hopes of getting an alignment, however the tech strongly suggested I get my rear fenders rolled before he worked on it. Since I didn't want crazy negative camber (-1.5 is enough for me) I knew I would definitely rub. I had no idea where to get them rolled since most body shops I've already been to didn't want to chance it and just about all of them told me the paint would crack/chip.

So the alignment shop recommended a place that was near by that does great body work. So I go down to this shop and tell them what I want done. Just like before, the manager tells me that they can not guarantee me that the paint will not crack. However, he tells me he does quite a few rolls and they've always turned out good. He even showed me his Supra which was out front, and lets me look at how well he did his fenders. So I'm feeling pretty good about this place and agreed to go ahead and get it done. It was a Friday afternoon, and I was told they would need my car till the next day, that it should be ready at noon.

The next day, a little after noon I get the call that my Z is all done. I asked how did everything go and was told it went nice and smooth. I asked if the paint chipped or anything with my fingers crossed, and was told no, everything was fine. So I head down there and this is what I find....

First off, I knew there was a chance the paint could get screwed up. Yes, the shop did warn me. But damn, does this look like quality work to you guys? And once they got done with one fender and saw how bad the paint was, why not call me and ask if I want them to go ahead with the next one? Why did dude lie to me on the phone when I asked if the paint chipped and he said nope that everything went fine? I had to pay 120 for this crap and when I told them I wanted them to repaint for free they tell me no since they couldn't guarantee the work, and that they could repaint the two fenders for 435 bucks. After all was said and done, I went to another shop that has done work on my companies leased vehicles, and they quoted me $522 for the repaint. This turned out to be an expensive roll.

Anybody else have bad experience with fender rolls/pulls?

Jesus man!!! They look like they were just beat in with a hammer and the paint was not heated to prevent that. I did mine myself with a hammer and a heat gun, but not a crack to be found a year later now. Sure the inner lip looks ugly, but nobody ever sees it. After I did mine, I sanded primed and painted to prevent rust. Reasons like this are why I do everything myself. Sorry man!

I dont have mine rolled for this reason... I dont think this is normal though. I had a buddy with an Evo 8 and he had them rolled.. He did them himself and they were only cracked on the very inside. So for it to be on the outside like that isnt normal.. Sucks since they said it MIGHT crack they can pretty much can do whatever they want

Damn bro... You could've done a better job with a baseball bat. Looks like they'll hide behind the "no guarantee" clause but it looks like shady work.

Hope you get everything resolved.

So it doesn't look like they used a fender rolling tool to you guys? Noticed how the inside lip is wavy and bent unevenly. Trust me, I didn't want to get a roll, but I didn't want my tires rubbing either.

Sorry to hear that, definitely looks like they didn't use heat or a fender roller.

Yea, that work looked like chit!

Same thing happened to me but not as bad... thank gawd I was there watching them like a hawk and saw he wasn't rolling it right so I bailed outta there.

The owner of the shop told me he's done a lot of fender roll before so I took his word.

Anywho - the fcker cracked my paint too but you can't see the crack only by touch.

Did you not examine the roll before leaving their lot? Those close up pix you posted are totally noticeable can't believe they lied... you can't trust anyone now days.

That should have been reason enough to walk away for such a simple job. It takes me no longer than a few minutes per corner to lift a Z and heat/roll fenders with the Eastwood, and $120 to roll two fenders without a guarantee??

Sorry for your misfortune, good luck with the repair.

that def. is a horrible job, if proper tool was used with a heat gun no chip should occur.

I did a better job with my DIY fender pull with an aluminum pipe

I don't know. Since they couldn't guarantee their work I'm not sure if I have any options. Ideas anyone or am I out of pocket 500 bucks for it to be repainted?

Looks like no heat gun, or too cheap of a gun that couldn't get enough heat. Sorry to hear bro.

well youd think them telling you they could do it should be a guarantee in itself. warning you some paint could chip is one thing but 500 bucks in damage is crazy. do you have any pics of your fenders before you took it in?

Wow, that looks horrible. You could of done a better job your self with a heat gun, and a bat. Hopefully you can try and work something out with them. But after this I dont think you would want them to paint your car....

This!
It only took about 45 minutes to do both rear sides on mine, with a roller.

Sorry to see this kind of shabby work from a supposedly professional.
I rolled my fenders, used a heatgun took my time, did another 350Z friends, a G35 friends, my former 330ci BMWs, all from the same fender rolling tool I borrowed from a customer of mine. None had cracks, the tool and a heat gun is cheaper than whatever this catastrophe will cost you. I hate to see this kind of thing happen. I would seriously talk to the owner of the shop, and if he doesnt fix it, I would try BBB and if that doesnt work, sue him for damages. Thats not a fender roll, thats clearly something else!

I did a better job on my car with a baseball bat, and less paint damage.
