Default Sat Radio in Sunglass Case Door Modification

My radio finally came in it was late due to east coast weather. I hope to have this all done up by the end of the weekend. First hole has been cut so i have to commit now haha.

Note this was just a mock up picture the radio will be flush with the door and the assembly will be coated in plasti dip to make everything black.

Im going to grind out the square because my cutting wheel skills suck haha

to be continued...

Yes, we have a slight angle on the whole assembly rather than straight level like most cars. Plus the OSD is pretty large and easy to read.

So things are moving along i am currently painting all the pieces but here is what ive done so far
started the cutting

got the radio fitting snug once all is painted i will glue gun everything in nice and secure

cut out the back so i can still open the door. I will have the cradle attached as well so that will need to be able to move freely when the door opens.

All my ugly cuts will either be hidden or not very obvious once everything is color matched black.

to be continued. ..

Scroll saws work much better on plastics than a dremel, you won't get that melted rough finish on the cut.

Cool idea for a mounting place. I'd hate to lose my sunglass holder though, haha.

Stock location? If you mean where the normal radio is i have a 7" indash there. As for the cubby i use that alot for my ipod connection. Plus i wanted the xm radio visable. The cubby door is to rounded out and wouldnt look flush. I could have just used sat radio in my indash but then i wouldnt have a few features that you get with an external receiver.

Glue gun might not work. Those satellite radios get pretty hot (at least mine used to) and would probably melt the glue.

I ran into an issue extending power cause my cable making skills suck. So as im working on a finished solution i thought id pop it in the headliner for a quick see how it looks. Heres a photo without the dome lights in but just something for now.
