2 things wrong with it. It can easily cause 1 or both of these uncurable conditions if you get in a wreck

1. Broken back, not curable, lifetime of pain.
2. Death

People do that - yes. I did not as that exceeded the suggested distance between the lap belt mounting point and the seat/back intersection: http://www.gforce.com/pdf/Harness_Install_Info.pdf

I drilled holes into the floor and installed eye bolts with metal backing plates underneath.

i could just use the stock location until i get a bucket seat.
About installing the eye bolt for sub belt, do you recommend, 1) cut the stud on eye bolt and weld it on the floor. No backing plate or whatever. or 2) drill a hole and use the backing plates.
I talked to a fab guy who is working on my custom harness bar, he recommended welding since its stronger and easier.

B. Drill a hole and weld the backing plate to the floor.

if you pull out your carpet, there is a hole in the transmission tunnel that mirrors the stock lap belt bolt hole, just use a backing plate and an eye bolt there and its perfect. Im almost positive nissan did that on purpose.....

Shouldn't the eye bolts on the floor for the lap harnesses be mounted where the harnesses are pulling directly out on them, instead of at a 90 degree angle like it would be if mounted to the transmission tunnel? Thought I saw that somewhere.

For reference, this is the backing plate I used in the transmission tunnel.

they need to be at about 45 degrees from your waist. where my seat is and the stock belt hole plus the hole that was already in the tunnel its just about perfect

I don't really mean where they should be mounted in accordance to the seat location, but the angle at which they pull on the eye-bolt. Shouldn't it pull directly out on the eye-bolt instead of at an angel? This way, it doesn't break the eye-bolt off under sudden or hard pull. Wish I could find that picture again to be more specific.
