Default Automatic door locking and lights question :

With the key out of the ignition and the headlights on, how long before they turn off automatically? Does it matter if the doors are locked or not ?

Is this adjustible?

Does it matter if the key is in the ignition (not turned)?

------------------------

Under what conditions do the door locks lock automatically ?

Is this true for all model years of the 3X0Z ?

About 5 mins or so.

It doesn't matter.

Not sure.

They will turn off unless the key is in the "on" position, like you have the engine cranked. ------------------------

I have an 03'. Mine don't auto-lock under any condition.

Not sure.

OP- as for everything else, I agree with Val @ 3-5 mins for lights to shut off. I don't think you can reprogram it.

^^ Correct, the doors autolock if you unlock them but don't physically open one of them.

I've never heard of that before. You're using the keyfob to unlock it, correct?

Yep. Just tried it again to make sure. Unlocked car from my desk, walked outside and grabbed jacket from car closed the door(passenger side) and 5 seconds later I heard it lock, checked both doors and they were locked The first time this happened to me was when I was loading groceries(unlocked car and popped trunk) put the eggs in pass seat and finished loading the trunk. When I went to get in on driver side, the doors were locked.

. . . . but if you start the car (to warm it up while you go back in your house to drink your coffee) will it automatically lock the doors? ( I say no, but I always crack a window)

Concern: leaving keys on floor or seat and getting locked-out. Does putting them in the ignition prevent the auto-lock? also, probably a silly question, but does side window position have any affect on auto-lock ?

I have only owned mine 8 years now and still don't know LoL.

side window position doesn't matter, if you put in ignition, turn key to the first position acc and you should be fine
