those who know me know i dont skimp...
and i still used 22 dollar a yard suede.

There is a subtle differences in the nap tho... Alcantara has almost a blotted patina to it.. its not as wishy washy where you can write in it w your fingers etc.. thats the main difference.. hope it helps.. its also a million times thinner than suede ( which is leather) and having exposed grain leather in a car is asking for trouble, smell, dirt and soil, and turing white when liquid hits it.. RUN !

I dont view it as being an ***...You bring up valid quessions that im sure other people have as well..I will answer them for you.
First off, my point was that I dont skimp and yet still, searching for a decent fabric yeilded me a very good find at 22 a yard, which a fifth of the price of Alcantara, which is an Italian fabric. I may not have crafted my sentence in the best manner. I have touched, seen, smelled all the high end cars.. i ahve an associate who owns a Veyron, best friend who owns 997 Porsches w Alcantara, etc etc. Im not offering BS info to yal.. im telling you the straits.

As for soil on a headliner, 99 out of 100 people will have to truthfully say they almost NEVER clean thier headliner AT ALL, let alone correctly. Good luck w that w a non synthetic fiber.

You dont have to hit your head on the ceiling to gain soil.. you have to breathe in your car, you have to open a window etc.

Lamborghini Superleggera: Alcantara..it is NOT suede leather.
Bugatti Veyron: Alcantara..it is NOT suede leather.
Lexus LFA: Alcantara..it is NOT suede leather.

Here is a link to something made of suede leather:
Its a skateboard shoe.

http://www.simpleshoes.com/productde...ndrew%20Holder

I mean go ahead and use suede leather, but Im trying to help you not make a mistake. You will also have to cut and sew it just like a shoe, it will NOT stretch over the dome light area. It will also weigh about 7 lbs. so you had better use some ungoddly good glue if you live somewhere hot. It will smell like an old purse soon. as it doesnt age like normal leather.

Lets put the real suede leather thing to rest and get OP back on track w his build.

This isnt a question of how you can rig it to work ok, its a thread about doing it the correct way. The OP appears to haev the ability to upholster, and that is a very special skill. He may work in a shop that isnt accustomed to higher end car interiors tho.. i know when i lived in Alaska, i had dreams of what i wanted, and all the shops had never done it before etc etc.

Here in AZ its the opposite.. you can get full blown out custom high end, done fairly cheap, and they get the trends.

Again, hope this helps. This is not my first car interior.

ahh now i see what u ment...my dad is in charge of the interior part of 50 million dollar private jets so i know how expensive that fabric can be...if u know what u are doing then suede isnt that bad for a headliner, my father has had multiple cars in magazines from him upholstering them and i can recall 4 or 5 that had suede on the headliner... dont get me wrong its not an easy task but it can be done...

werd.

BTW, that is one freeeeaky industry.. jesus, i watched a show on that last year, talk about unsurpassable money. There was a similar show on custom boats too.. just total redonk figures... and the nerdiest little dudes who owned and paid for them.. hot wives.. eesh.. what a strange reailty to drop 50 million on a plane and then 20 million on the amenities, pay multiple 100k a year salaries for crew.. just nuts.

I live in North Scotsdale right next to the private airport and the Lambo and Ferrari dealership... you see some wild stuff out on the runway.. and the pilots always come to drink and spill thier stories at the Tilted Kilt across from my house.. funny stuff.

Didnt i see you post on the planking thread? hahah.. that thread cracked me up. I had no idea what it was till yesterday. anyways..

WERD.

LOL. My parents didn't have any idea how to do any of the interior of my car because it was so different from quilting and embrodery. I did literally 99.5% of it myself.

Also sorry for not updating i've been away from the forum. Ill upload pictures when i get a chance. Thanks.

[QUOTE[/QUOTE]

What happens if the passanger side air bags goes off? Would they not fully work because of the fabric covering it?

I doubt the fabric is a big deal to the airbag. They're powerful enough to break bones.

MOMO steering wheel= no more airbags.
looking at it from underneath, i doubt the fabric adds any issue tho. that airbag breaks thru plenty of plastic to deploy... kinda scary actually.
