Default carbon fiber hood pins needed or not?

Hey guys,

i m looking at an OEM style hood for 07-08 Z. the seller told me that pins are not needed b/c they have the latch installed just like OEM. i read some of the stories up here and many recommended the pins. I like the clean look but if i have too i wil get the pins.

my question is the new carbon hood from seibon is good enough with the pins? the seller said do not need it.

let me know. thanks

Get aero latch pins.

I know of people who have had their hoods fly off and people who have never had that happen. Either way, would you want to risk it and spending even more down the line if it does happen?

Just do it right the first time and be done with it.

i understand that. I really am interested to know if the pins are needed for the new hood. The sellers said it is a new design and it doesnt need pins. he said older version needs pins but this does not.

he is confident with his hood but i rather have user experiences than seller thoughts!!

i wonder if anyone are using the "newer version" that he is mention. it is for 07-08 hood. made by seibon?

It all depends on how much resin is holding the hook in, which would determine how strong the hook latch placement is.

Who is this manufacture? As far as pins I would recommend it. It is cheap insurance. You definitely don't want your hood to fly open while driving on the freeway.

Why bother with the hood, its no lighter than the stock aluminum hood. After paint you will have spent $700 to possibly lose 1/2 pound.

I ran mine, on my '07 Zed, for about two years without the pins ( Seibon ). Then my buddy had his hood fly open on him and smash his roof in while driving down the highway. I installed Aerocatch pins the next week just for added insurance.

Some have gone without latches and have had their hoods snap up. Others have done fine without them. It's all about how much of a chance you're willing to take...

I have a VIS CF Hood, with a latch installed, just like OEM. I got it from a friend, who had it about 3 years, without using hood pins. I've gone a short time without them too, but in the end, I decided to use pins... It's better to air on the side of caution... Who knows? May be a couple years down the road, or a couple hours, and that hood may snap...

The question is... how much of a risk are you willing to take? The seller says his hood doesn't need pins. Ok, great. Does that mean if it fails, he's gonna fix your car? Don't bet on it... I'd rather be safe than sorry.

And if you decide to get pins, get the Aerocatch pins, as recommended. I have them, and they have a very clean look. If you get the ones that come in CF, they'll stand out even less on your cf hood.

Go with the hood pins, my friend bought a cf hood.
He was on the freeway the hood blew up on him and damaged the whole roof of his car and messed up the clear on his car.
