Could honestly say I would never use this stuff ever again . Better off prepping priming and rattle canning it on certain parts and pieces. Just my opinion after I did my badges and other things I'm embarrassed of and is now replaced lol

I'll actually be dipping my Z soon... Going with a dark navy blue pearl over a black base coat, topped with Glossifier.

As much as I am a fan of Plastidip (I've done bikes and cars for friends in the past), I don't see it being a permanent paint job for me. Not because of durability or anything... But because I am a perfectionist and I love the perfect deep gloss finish on a car.

So... Why am I dipping my Z?

Well... My Z needs a LOT of love. Previous owner beat this poor thing and it sat outside. The clear is peeling on every panel, the paint job that was done to it was shoddy to begin with, it needs a new front bumper, etc. etc.

This would equate to ~40 hours of prep and paint time.

As it is, I work 7 days a week, around 60-80 hours a week. I simply don't have the option to have my car down for 40 hours of labor (which I would be doing myself).

I do, however, have the 3 hours it would take to dip the whole car and make it look a Hell of a lot more presentable than it does currently.

Default So I heard you guys hate plasti dip . . .

Just finished dipping him myself. Anthias Chameleon. Needless to say the response on the ground has been positive, but figured I'd share so everyone could hate on it and knock me down a peg or two

If anyone would like a write up on how I did it, or anything else I'd be happy to provide. This was my first time ever dipping, and while it was surprisingly simple, there were definitely some lessons learned on the takeaway. As you can probably tell from the pics, it isn't perfect (definitely a 10ft job) but practice makes perfect.

Looks incredibly uneven.

Plastiderp done correctly with guns in a booth looks fine from what I've seen.

And that eBay shovel lip..

It's done with a gun. Chameleon is notoriously uneven.

I'm sure many would agree the blotchiness of the job screams rattle-cans

But yeah, I don't know the exact properties or notorious tendencies of chameleon Plastiderp I don't use it.

If it looks that uneven in edited pictures, I'm sure it looks worse in person.

You asked for criticism.

v This looks more appealing than that mess of a spray job.

Lawlessh, I’m guessing this finish looks a lot brighter and more shimmerie in person. It is one of those things that I kinda hate, but I can’t stop looking at. Good job at making your car “your car”. As soon as I saw that you referred to the car as a him, I realized that you are a girl. So, You Go Girl, great job at being so hands-on.

One thing you should consider is adjusting the gas filler door. The hinge and the tabs that hold the rubber stops can be adjusted so that the door aligns perfectly with the surrounding bodywork. Yours is gaping out at the bottom. My friend who is good at these things fiddled with mine for a bit to get it just right.

I agree...these shots bring out the worse...but in person the regular eye might not see it that way...

not my cup of tea, but to each their own. fix your droopy gas door (stood out to me for some reason) and do something with the wheels to help tie them in more and I think you could pull it off

I applaud you for having the ***** to dip your Z. I dipped my B13 since the paint was beyond shot and I was still nervous doing that car. I could never imagine dipping my Z.

What color is your car? Was the paint in bad condition?

if I remember correctly, you can adjust it while you have it open... from another site

The fuel door lid itself can be adjusted from the inside...by loosening & adjusting very, very slightly the screw of the reed & then tightned.
It could take a couple of times. You might need to have one person to push in on the release button inside and you can watch on the outside the progress.?

I'm glad I finally looked in here instead of ignoring it as I had been.

Now I know that the gas door can be adjusted. Gonna have to fix mine.

I love my 350z but every time I see one of these plastidipped Z's with an ebay lip and wheels from some cast garbage knockoff company I'm one step closer to selling it.
