Question How much should I be expecting to pay for paint?

Would just like some diverse opinions/ experiences with getting a body kit painted. I was recently quoted about $500 for a nismo v2 kit and painted 2 tone would put it about $1400.

I personally think paying more for a paintjob than the part itself is ridiculous but it sure seems like it's something to just get used to.

How much are some of you guys paying?
Also looking for a good shop anywhere from South Chicago to Champaign area.

Picture of sexy redline for fun. (this is what im going for)

I Paid $250 twice to paint my front bumper silverstone, but paint didn't really match the rest of the car (that's what i get for taking the car to a cheap shop trying to save some $$$), so i had to pay $700 a third time to paint bumper and blend the color with the fenders. I took my car to a ferrari/lambo shop so i knew they were going to charge me alot, but they gave me life time warranty on the paint job!

I think $400-$500+ is what you're going to pay for some quality work. If you find a shop that will do it for less, they'll probably use cheap paint, or the color won't match the rest of the car.

Better spend the extra $100-200 to make sure they do it right.

I could live with a quality $500 job it's just $900 seems just unreasonable. I need to learn the trade and make some money as well as save some hahah.

Oh and just to clarify I'm not being cheap and buying a replica kit and trying to get a deal on paint for no reason, I'd rather spend my $$ on performance parts but still I'd rather do this first!

800-1000 bucks.

body shops , you get what you pay for most of the time. unless someone is willing to work less than minimum wage to help you out on labor.

i work at a bodyshop as a body tech and can tell you this. get multiple quote and compare then, most shops have same labor rate if its in the same area.

Read the estimate... see what differs in the estimates. the difference will most likely be in the hours to mask and do the two tone then the other will be paint and material cost. <--- this is what will tell you if they are using shitie paint or quaily paint. and dont come in there sounding cheap or theyll do your car TO cheap and youll be back again wanting a warranty but theyll say F off. DONT take verbal quotes, get a legit estimate on paper from each company so you can read it yourself. its not hard to read a estimate.

Hope i could help. Good Luck

Thanks for the input, I will be sure to go around and get estimates, but without the physical pieces with me it doesn't seem like I can get an accurate quote, if any.

For whatever it's worth, I just got a quote to have my hood repainted and due to having to blend the color into the fenders, the total quote was around $900. Sucks but you gotta pay to play.

nismo v2 front bumper, amuse sideskirts, nismo rear add ons, jp rear diffuser .. all prepped to perfection, emblem filled in, two tone paint, perfect match and blend ran me ~1400. that quote is not unreasonable at all. there is a lot of work that goes into a good paint job ..

Hahah I admire the look of the Red Z's with Nismo v2 2tone paint.
I think I live far enough away that you will never have to worry about ending up next to me at a stoplight or something :P

I had my kit done at A&L Auto body and at AutoWerks.
They are both Chicago Z sponsors. Try to get different quotes.
Print out the picture above and bring it with you to get quotes.

btw, that red Z is hot! I want the headlights.

That's right that you can't get an accurate quote. The body shop needs to see the parts to know how much fitting and finishing they need to do to them.

To paint JUST a body kit properly I would expect to pay $800 minimum and up to $1500+.

To repaint the same car (original color) I would expect to pay a minimum of $2500, and probably closer to $4000.

I've worked at a shop, and my buddy owns a body shop. I've seen $10k paint jobs, and trust me a good paint job is well worth the money.

Somebody else summed it up very well earlier in the thread:

Cheap paint isn't good, and good paint isn't cheap.

I guess a lot of people think that painting a body kit is as simple as "Spray part with paint, bolt it on, done". I guess they don't realize how much work actually goes into doing it properly.

Not sure where you live but i want to live there if minimum wage there is $35-60/hr and up as the labor charge is at all bodyshops
