Default Carbon Fiber + Florida = ?

I was thinking about getting a carbon fiber hood but someone told me that if I do I have to keep the car garage kept (which I can't) or cover it when it's outside because the carbon fiber will fade in the sun (I live in Florida).

What have you guys experienced with the carbon fiber that you have? Is the expensive cf (Seibon, etc) relatively unaffected by the sun or should I really not go cf if I can't put the car in a garage?

Thanks!

Make sure its clear coated if not painted. I have read stories of it turning a tint of yellow in some cases.

throw a coat of clear coat on it,and get a car cover. a car cover may seem like it doesnt do much but it works wonders from when I parked my car outside for a year, but yes after awhile the cf will fade in turn yellow

Would the same be true for carbon fiber overlay?

I'm sure it's hard to estimate but if it's clear coated how long would take for the cf to fade? a year? five? ten?

Thanks again

Even the name brand exterior cf pieces do fade in time if they sit out in the sun and get beat up by UVs. Clear coating it does help prolong the time frame but they seem to all yellow up at some point.

Sun will eventually fade all materials. With the CF vinyl, it's cheap enough to pull off and re apply every few years. I believe 3M's scotchprint (material designed for outdoor use) is supposed to last 4-5 years.

What are we the new civic ricers, this forum has grown to be so sad. IDK when CF vinyl became cool but it is not. It is a sad, sad thing to do to a Z.

That's why my lip kit is really CF... I'm not gonna lie though, I use the vinyl in small detail areas that don't need hundreds of dollars spent on stick-on carbon panels.

I was merely answering a fellow forum member's question.

Best thing to do is just paint it, that will keep it protected and keep you from looking like the typical ricer who could afford something more than a Civic.

NP m8, thats why I was refering to the forum and not you directly. Sorry was more so in other vinyl threads but figured I would use the general acceptance of CF vinyl to help clarify my point. I have been banned forever and damn this site has slowed and changed so much.

How often should you clearcoat your car especially if you have carbon fiber parts?

So when it looks clean, is inexpensive due to new technologies that weren't offered in the past it becomes Civic Rice because they don't do it the old way. Maybe you're just to old fashioned, nothing wrong with it. You have to take into account that you can get an old used 350z for an inexpensive price.

I think if done right it looks good; don't have cover? you can't purchase one of those car port things?

Its stick on fake crap that does nothing but change the looks, its even more pathetic than the real CF stick on crap people rice out their cars with.
