Locked keys in trunk
Today I locked my keys in my trunk area while running my mouth and turning around because I forgot something. The car was locked and I opened the hatch with the key fob button. The hatch opened, I sat down my keys, got what I forgot, and shut the hatch. Since I didn't unlock the car first, the rear hatch button would not open the hatch.
When I got the car, I remember thinking that it would be easy to do this so I've always kept it on my mind. Since I was preoccupied talking to someone I did what I thought I would never do. To make matters worse, the car was on a Naval installation, so calling a "qualified locksmith" would never happen and I only had "base security" to rely on. I didn't want to take the chance of having an unqualified "mall cop" operating on my pride and joy. So I called the local Nissan Dealership (since I'm out of town on business) and asked about buying a spare key. Much to my surprise, the guy in parts told me that he could cut me a spare which would open up just the door in order to unlock the car to get my keys out of the trunk.
So I got a ride to the dealership, called the insurance company and had them fax my policy w/ the VIN to the parts dept. and provided proof of ID when I got there. $10.53 later, I had a key in hand which opened the door perfectly.
I'm sure there are other "locked out" threads on here, but didn't see any recent ones so here's my story. Hopefully this will help someone out down the road.
Glad to know that Nissan took care of me.... This time...
PS: A real key is $101 and programming it is another $53. This is what I thought it would cost until the other parts guy overheard my transaction and said "just cut him a door key". Glad he was there....
Thanks Hudson Nissan, Charleston, SC!!
