Default Gated Shifter Ferrari style

Has anyone ever attempted or actually executed a shifter gate to mimic a Ferrari steel/aluminum gate?

Default gated..

it never works out for normal transmission location cars.... mid engine cars have a transaxle and the shifter only moves cables that in turn shift the transaxle.. it has the ability for a thinner shifter, and there will also be no vibration, and will be a tighter pattern for shifting.. this is why trying to replicate the ab-Flug gate shifter they made fro 300zx is a nightmare and the end result would be nowhere near as cool and neat n tidy as one for a transaxled car.

Sucks.. id buy one too, but its not to be done. At least not correctly.

Oh, and the Ferrari gates are actually spring loaded to return to center... if you took the time to build one for our car, the gate grooves would be huge and it would rattle and buzz like crazy.

Thanks for the info. Thinking about it some more...the shiter in the z does vibrate quite a bit in neutral. During acceleration in gear it's not exactly stable either.

I guess an alcantara shift boot is what I'll end up doing with an aluminum ball shift ****. My Greddy counterweight **** is looking pretty shabby after 2 years.

I chose to match the boot and **** to the orange interior. not perfect match, but I like it. The real leather boot is the best $12 I spent on the car.

As far as the Forked plate goes. I have that on my Pantera and its ok, but sucks when your trying to whip it. If your not careful you hit and or slam into the "finger" part of the forks and start to damage or make marks. In fact some guys i know cut out the forks all together to have a quicker smoothing shift.

But hey if you design it and make it then Kudos! i'd love to see pix.

Just hopped on it was there. I've always been 2nd or 3rd.

He's a funny guy. I see he's coming to chicago. Maybe I'll see if the wife wants to go. Good times??

I agree with Doc.. I driven my buddies pantera and its gated. Nice for burn outs because it stays in gear but real hard to quick shift the thing. Plus its a long throw. The Z is a shorter throw.

Cool Gated Shifter?

Has anyone seen a gated shifter done in a z before?

I searched and saw a few threads of people inquiring about it but dont seem to see it done.

Seems like that would hinder your "spirited" driving. Do you want this just for the looks?

ya this isn't the first thread on this topic...

correct me if im wrong but seems gated shifters only come on cars with cable driven transmission.

I don't see any reason that with enough trial and error the pattern couldn't be made, but I know other companies have tried with no success, so i doubt its possible

Yeah I get the actually shifting method would require different mechanics i was more curious about the look itself. I would assume it would just be a cut out but with the angles i thought it wouldnt work very smoothly. Not looking to do it just curious. Saw an R8 shifter and thought it was sex.

those cars that have them are all rear engined...
ie, the shifter is a cable shifter.

Ours is on the transmission, moves too much, and is far thicker.. = aint gonna happen.
and if it does, its gonna look worse than what youre looking at, be very noisy and make our transmission even notchier to shift.. id love one too man, but its not gna happen unless you hit the lottery or youre driving a fiero haha.

My cousin had a GT in Puerto Rico and I loved them... he traded up to a turboed Trans AM pace car that I loved even more. Don't forget... I have a 1993 Delsol too.
