Default $624 To paint and install a spoiler? Does that seem a bit much?

I got a replica nismo spoiler and I took it to the same shop that painted and install my C-West bumpers. The guy told me that it has some dips in it and they would need to sand it down because they would show up really badly once it's painted.

They want 200 less than what they charged for my front and rear bumpers. This just doesn't sound right I don't think it should cost this much to paint a spoiler and install it.

Can anyone confirm if this is the going rate to install and paint the nismo spoiler?

Welcome to the replica hell. Relicas cost alot more to prep and fit becouse of imperfections. This price is normal for a replica piece.

Real C-west bumpers are less prep work to paint. The cost for a piece of a car to be painted comes all in the prep work and labor.

C-west stuff in good quailty and thats why the price charged was not a whole lot. It wasn't hard to prep because it not a second class mold like a replica.

If a body piece is messed up from the start then it costs the body shop more time and labor to make it fit right. This is why they are charging you $624 dollars.

This is an prime example why theres such an out cry about relicas on this board. There are savings from the start and then a person pays alot more in prep work for the relica to look like the real one.

Ive seen someone else pay on this board pay $500 for a Nismo replica to make it look, and fit right. It was his friends shop and he kicked him down with a semi deal.

If it was the real nismo spoiler Im sure it would be around 250-300. If I were in your shoes I would send the replica back and buy the real thing when nismo releases it.

Hope that the replica manufacturer gives you your money back. Most replica companines dont though they are just around to make a buck.

Good luck

I would really like to see what people are paying to have real authentic Nismo spoilers painted and installed.

I may just eat the price I paid for it and just wait for the real thing to come out. Probably not until Feb :'(

If Nismo would have released their spoiler when they said they were I wouldn't have "had" to buy a replica

koolzero,

don't feel bad buying a replica. the worst thing you could have done is buy a replica bodykit. paintshops charge a grip if they don't fit correctly and need modifying. IMO $625 is kinda pricey just to paint and install a wing. time to find a new shop

I have a replica nismo body kit, took it to a shop primed sand and painted for $650 Total. Fits almost perfect for a replica, your are being rippeed off. I remember first going to a shop they quoted me 1500$ for the whole kit because they Bsed about blending paint of the entire whole car which is ridiculous for a new car with no paint fade yet.

You guys do know you can do 90% of the prep work on your own, right? Just get 400, 600, 800, & 1000 grain sandpaper. Plus some autobody primer. If there are any major gaps, etc, you can get a filler compound (read: bondo). Literally if you have 3-4 hours on a sunday afternoon in the garage you can save yourself $200-300 of labor from the shop. Plus you'll have the satisfaction of knowing you did the work yourself!

I got the Nismo replica when it came out from Gruppe-S. The wing cost $299. The prep, paint and installation cost $550 from a guy who does great work. The explanation, prep is very labor intensive.

It's worth it to get the original and pay less for prep work. Your quote is in the ballpark for a good job but is still high.

your getting hosed for 600+ for paint and prep. they are trying to rip you off because you have a nice car. tell them either give you a realistic estimate or you will walk.

When I say release it I mean when Nismo USA releases their version of the spoiler which was supposed to be Nov then it got moved to Dec and now they're saying April. And it was supposed to be about half the price.

should get an estimate for painting if he didnt have to do any prep; just primed and painted; no bondo work at all. make sure it was going to be less; he could come back and be like 500$ to just paint; and then you know he's just overpriced.

Thats not too bad. They did a great job on it. They wanted $85 + to install it . I installed it myself. A piece of cake.
