Default Swapping Headlight Lense w/ aftermarket HL's?

Just wondering if anyone has attempted purchasing aftermarket headlights and removing the lenses and replacing your old ones? I need to do this unfortunately, but its kind of risky putting forward $250-$300 for them not to fit. I don't mind spending that money if they do fit though. also, do 03-05 lenses fit 06-08?
The reason i need to do this is because i have too much "stress cracking?" in the lenses as well as hazing that i've attempted to polish out three times, and it's just not as good as i'd like...everything is also more noticeable because i've blacked out the inside.

Any help on this matter is greatly appreciated...i would hate to have to spend $1200 on new assemblies.

Yes it does work. I picked up aftermarket black housing 03-05, rip apart the lens and put them on my 06+ lights. Looks good as new.

No problem also I think I only paid $150 here locally. Shop around it shouldn't be that much.
