I want one of the newer hoods like the 07 for my 03. They have a cool hump instead of the 2 lines.

Default Things to consider when installing a new CF Hood?

Simple question maybe but I don't want to spend the $$$ without knowing what I'm getting into.

I want to install a good quality CF hood on my '03 - maybe a Seibon. What do I need to know?

Can I just unbolt the old hood and bolt on the new one?

Do I have to adjust the hood in some way to get it to fit right?

Will the hood latch on my OEM hood work ok on the CF hood?

Will the OEM hood support work with the new hood?

What about latches? I've heard they are a must - why?

What's the best way to keep rain from coming in open hood vents - the kind with the mesh over the openings?

Thanks guys

2 sets of hands, fittment will depend, you can always drill out the stock hardware ( I did, and I have 3 hoods) I would use hood/catch pins for many reasons, hood latch depends, should be fine...pm for further....

Honestly, unless you have an FI or pissed of NA car that needs the cooling vents in the hood, leave the OEM hood on. Especially for a daily driven car.

Nismo RS slots in the OEM hood are also another great option.

seibon fitment is always hit or miss. i've seen guys with perfect fitment and i've seen some with poor fitment esp with the vented hoods.

yes you may need to adjust it from the hinges to fit right and you may need to push up the latch for the hook to fully catch.

can't really stop the rain. so depending where the vents are just make sure all wires and fuse boxes are sealed and the battery cover is always on.

you might wanna consider hood pins as well.

seen seibon fit pretty much spot on and then seen one that was a nightmare to get it to line up so I guess it depends on your luck in terms of fitment.

I have yet to see a CF hood without fitment issues. Bigger gaps along the sides, edges not even, stay with your stock hood.

No need to get a CF hood unless it is dry carbon which 90% of the people will not spring for. Like some had stated for controlling under hood temps from track or FI then sure but for a DD a CF hood is 100% waste of $!

i concur w every statement made above me.
Your VIS or Seibon hood will weight one pound less than stock, WILL become yellowed in about a year or so, and will NOT fit very well usually. Nismo vents are cheap and best left to a seasoned pro.
The only reason i bought mine was i was bored.
Im loooking for another style for heat reasons due to FI only.
Rain coming in does nothing as long as its a reasonable hood that doesnt pool water into your fusebox or something etc. They are mostly all fine.

I have an authentic Veilside hood, and it fits worse than any others ive seen actually, and its an 1100 dollar retail hood.

But in terms of installation.. wow. Have you popped your hood tho man and looked? The alst thing in the WORLD youd do if you did look is take the time to ask about it online haha.

Its... four bolts.... that are.. right in your face.... and.. thats it.

its not latches, its hood pins youre asking about.
That latch they glass in is jusut that.. glassed in. if enough air comes in under that thing, it will rip off. into your windsheild, or into another car full of kids on the fwy heading to church.. you get the point.

agreed waste of money for 1lb lighter, id paint my hood anyway rocking cf is f2f. dated look. also i spaced the latch on a z rocking a vented seibon, thats it unless u rock pins then u need to use a pre-existing hole, and drill out your own. gl

Some vented hoods come down lower than the stock and may hit the strut tower brace. I had to remove the spacers (from the plenum spacer) under my brace so it would clear the vents. Then I also had to remove the plastic plenum cover so my bar wouldn't hit that. But the plastic cover was stupid anyway.

The stock hood is already pretty light. Some CF ones can actually be pretty heavy. So make sure you know what your buying.

Also be prepared to have to get the hood clear coated if you live in a sunny place. The gel coating tends to oxidize easily.

Take the hood to a body shop, and write a check. They'll handle the rest.

Paint is one of the few areas of cars that I don't suggest the average person DIY.
