Default Nismo Shift **** First Impressions

So I just got my Nismo Titanium Shift **** (LINK) installed today and I thought that I would share my first thoughts and impressions about this shift **** since I didn't see too much information on it.

First seeing the shift **** installed, it looked really good and looked comfortable. Upon entry to my car I went through all of the gears to get a little acquainted with the feeling of the new **** and I have to say it was really weird.

I guess that after using the OEM shift **** for a year that it would feel pretty weird going to a shift **** with such a different design and size so we'll see.. I noticed that resting my hand on the shifter isn't as comfortable now since the top is flat so I am still messing around seeing if I can find a comfortable position to rest my hand when cruising. One gear that is extremely uncomfortable and awkward to go into is 3rd. I hate the feeling of the flat top of the shift **** when using this gear in particular but I am assuming that i'll get used to it.

I only went on a short drive just to feel it out and will be messing with it a lot more and possibly installing a shift collar so we'll have to see. Anyway, I like the shift **** overall but am not sure how comfortable it is especially being titanium it will get super hot in the summer so i'll have to carry a microfiber along :thumb up:

Kinda a weird thread I know but hopefully it'll be able to help some people deciding to get this **** or not once I get some more experience with it myself.

I had one on my R32 a few years back, solid metal got hot in Okinawa , no way in hell would i do it in Vegas. Felt to thin for my liking and for the Z cars i have driven with on , it is just to short for the car.

I have around 5 Nismo shift ***** laying around my house. The metal gets too hot in Texas, and the others I just got tired of. I've also had a Tommy Kaira Hebi Bebi Shift ****, but that too would scorch my palm in the Texas heat. I now have the MoMo Combat Evo Carbon Fiber **** and it is by far my favorite. Will keep this one on until it's sold.

I had the CF Nismo shifter on my Z for a summer and ended up selling it...the shifter got too hot and it felt too thin for me. But it did look nice installed.

How about on the steering wheel where it belongs?

I have the same shift **** in black, and really love it! I agree it took some getting used to from the factory one, at first I thought I wouldn't like it but after a few days I knew it was a keeper.

Living in the desert a mod like this is asking to get "home alone'd".

I installed the Nismo GT titanium shift **** a few days ago and love it. It might be a better option for you, OP since it's rounded on top. Although I have read that resting your hand on the shift **** puts unnecessary stress on your transmission.

Yeah i've heard this too so I generally avoid it but sometimes in the city it's just easier to keep my hand on the shift **** due to all of the shifting. Thanks for the advice though!

I just picked up the black aluminum nismo **** for 35 bucks at the dealer yesterday. Guess they had it in the case for over a year and needed to get rid of it. Score lol

I have the exact same shift **** and just installed it last month. Shifting feels a lot smoother and going into gears doesn't require as much effort as before. I've also noticed that it does shorten the throw since it's about an inch shorter than the stock shift **** once installed. Haven't noticed any problem with heat even with the great weather lately. I do try and park away from other cars and in the shade as often as I can.

Honestly, this is a great upgrade for me as I've always felt like the transmission was too notchy and clunky compared to some other cars I've driven such as the S2000 and Miata; both of which have fantastic and slick shifting. I have a Beat Rush delrin ball type in my girl's starlet which feels awesome and perfect for the long throws in her car. I've tried an ARC ball as well but hated the rainbow finish(to each their own I guess).

I tried looking for a ballcock shank washer to use as a finisher but they're pretty old technology when it comes to toilets and nearly impossible to find. Settled on the Zee Toyz aluminum finisher and JPM Coachwork's Alcantara shift boot. Both are coming this week so I will have photos up after I install them.
