Default wiring: +/- illumination wire in door/switch?Help meh!

Hey guys.. im in the process of retrofitting my carbon fiber door panels.. i decided to do so mods to the passenger side door handle pull bar too.. since im wrapping a large portion of the door panel in suede, including the CAS pods, top or the panel where my arm rests, and the pull handle as well...its time to get this wiring knocked out too.

In the pics its red leds, but I ordered OEM matching amber ones..
(btw, after opening the handle up, it looks like Nissan had initially decided to illuminate them too as theres some spaces for lighting that otherwise wouldnt have been molding in, good ol after-the-fact cost cutting. )

ANyway, Ill do a DIY thread for the handle trick, what i wanted to know is if anyone knew the wire colors(INSIDE THE DOOR) for the door switch illumination that of course lights up when you turn on the headlights..

Im just going to tap my LED handle there and b e done w her.

I like that idea!

The service manual should give you the wiring diagram for it. Sub'd for the DIY.

The pic is just a v leds strip.. just to test the dimming properties of the vht niteshade and plastic I used to diffuse the light. I ordered regular 5mm amber leds w resistors prewired off eBay. Im also adding one to each door pocket as well as the foot well , again highly diffused.
My lexus gs300 runs a dim light set up like that ..looks very classy at night..

hey btw.. opinions on this area for suede?

a-- its hot as living hell here in the summer. Cars interiors get up to 160 degrees when parked
b-- i have an appointment in 3 weeks for a half sleeve tattoo..
equals-- id like to have the ability to hang my elbow out the window without 2nd degree burns this summer when cruising haha .

so yes its a necessity, im just curious on opinions ... the area in blue tape would be flat black suede. ( IM JACKING MY OWN THREAD>)

anyone ahve any idea?
I have a voltmeter, but to be honest, im really not that good at using it to decipher what wire is giving me juice and its polarity etc.

I cant find anything specific on the door wiring either.. its all just alarm stuff and radio stuff online.. any ideas?

Turn the lights on, and open the door. Hold the black lead from your meter against a ground. Taping it down or using an alligator clip will make things easier. Use the red lead and touch each pin and keep track of any that show power. When you've checked every pin, close the doors and turn the lights off and recheck. The pin that had power before but doesn't now is your wire. If you can't find it like that, then it uses a negative (ground) trigger. In that case, you just use the black lead to poke around while the red lead is attached to a constant power source. Test lights are good for this if you have.

I hope these will help. They came from the 2005 service manual. I am also currently wrapping my interior and have everything taken off. When I saw your thread, I thought I might tackle the light idea on the grab handle too.

Of course, this is your idea and would give you full credit. This will be a good DIY.

Not a problem. Glad I could help.

I see you use vleds a lot. I will be purchasing some myself. On the LED strips, do you know by any chance what the distance is between each LED? I figure it would be about 1" but I'm not sure.

Cool

Thanks for measuring from the center. I thought about that last night as I forgot to ask that.

Thanks again bmccann101!

any luck on the LED illumination through the power window sub-switch wiring bmccann101?

I tried but the LEDs are constantly on being powered through the white wire. I tried powering it through the window serial link wire but still the same result.

Turning the ignition to ON or START illuminates the switches, but the wiring diagram shows the RAP signal wire being the direct source for the driver side illumination.
