Default Bad Housing Conversion : PICS (Found the answer)

Well, after inspecting my black housing conversions, I think I found out the answer as to why I am getting lines all over the road (you can see the pics in my previous thread)

Here are pictures of what I think the problem is. The reflector on the side of the projector is smudged on the left headlight...I think that if I can figure out how to safely pull apart the headlight, I can polish this up and fix the problem.

::Right Headlight...the one that is perfect

::Left Headlight...the one with the smudges

I went ahead and called Steve (Android123) and e-mailed him. . .but haven't heard back from him yet to find out how to properly pull everything apart (or if he thinks this is even the problem)

Please...if anyone can give me their opinions and/or advice, I really could use it before I do anything!

Respectfully,
Christopher

PS: If anyone is considering having Steve do your black housings. . . he is a great guy, very prompt and impressive work! Everything is amazing, just except for this minor detail. Hopefully I can get it fixed.

this isnt first hand experience but is it possible that "smudge" is actually the reflective surface sanded accidentally?

tho I dont see that being the cause; as the headlight puts 99% of the light straight through the lens; not reflected back. and even so; that should leave less light output; not reangle it into concentrated paths...

Ares. . . it could have been sanded accidently. . . I e-mailed Steve (Android123) twice, and left a voice message today on his cell phone about this. . . I hope he gets back in touch with me to let me know if they would possibly know or remember what they did when they did my conversion. . . He said if there are any problems, he would take care of it. . . so hopefully I'll be ok.

Thanks for your comment Ares! Any others ?

I thought our HIDs are reflector type as opposed to projector type as you would suggest, ares. wouldn't this conincide with the poor light pattern?

yeah that not a real lens from what Ive heard; but still wouldnt the light go straight through it anyway? Im speculating still; just tossing out some ideas; certainly not answers.

hope you get it figured out.

It's not the lens I was taking pictures of. . . it was the reflector :-)

You can see how one is completely smudged vs: the other one is spotless.

That was the ONLY difference between the two housings. Everything else is perfect.

I haven't taken apart the housing to clean it yet, because I don't know the safest way to do it without breaking the housing.

I'm still awaiting the response from Steve.

yeah I know its the reflector; I just thought the reflector was more or less a asthetic peice vs functional for directing the light.

That's what I was thinking myself. . . but each housing is in perfect condition. . . no scratches, smears, smudges, mis-alignments, or anything. . . the only difference is that smudge on the reflector that is ironically on the same side that the lines on the road are coming from.

It is my only opinion. I will not know until I can find a way to carefully take apart the headlight to clean it and see if that's it.

All trial and error from here :-)

check the DIY forum for the write up on opening the headlight.

gotta cook it in the oven; and a heat gun(not a hairdryer) can come in real handy.

Ouch. I don't know if I can trust myself putting it in the oven :-)

Looks like I'm going to have to wait to hear from Steve (Android123). He hasn't gotten back to me yet! Starting to get worried.

:-) yeah, it looks really good during the day! haha.

Hey. . I'm looking to move out to California, anyone have any ideas as to the best place to re-locate to? I'm in the midwest right now (st.Louis, missouri)

My girlfriend really doesn't feel like moving somewhere where EVERYONE is model material :-) Just a place where everyone is somewhat average. . . yet, on the coast to where we can go to the beach. Any ideas? lol

I have done the mod and have a step by step with pics if you PM me your e-mail address I will send it to you. The whole headlight needs to go in the oven or use a heat gun. It is not nearly as scary as it souns and rather simple to do.

Keep in mind however that if the housing is scratched instead of smudged, there is mo way to fix it! Good luck!
