Do any off the shelf aerosol paints match b17 daytona blue?
Hey guys,
I want to do some customizing of my z. Does anyone know any off the shelf paints that match b17 daytona blue? I can get it canned at automotive supply for $22 a can, but looking for a cheaper option. Thanks, Frank.

your teachers lied to you when they said there is no such thing as a dumb question.
Try primer gray and let us know how that works.

Hey cux,
It is funny what some people think to be impossible. I have worked in auto body, a well respected, reputable shop and have been in that business for quite a while. I painted my Buell with Rustoleum rattle can paint and acheived a higher level of perfection than any job I have seen from any of our local shops. I understand shade, depth and flop. It is absolutely not a "dumb question" to ask if anyone has found an off the shelf paint that matches the color well. Thanks for your help and good luck spending your hard earned money on things you can do yourself with a little effort. Dont be afraid to try.

A 5 minute search would have saved you from trying to preach to me about DIY.
You asked if an off the shelf can matched. After working in an autobody shop you would think you would know that you don't find matching OEM spray cans for import cars at your local auto parts store.
Pay up, buy the premade cans and be done with it. Not saying that you cannot do a nice paint job with rattle cans.
Now..when i go to get my car painted it is going to be done professionally. The equipment and time it takes to do right is just worth it to do a DIY.
Some people are plasti-dipping their entire car...give it shot.
I dont really have time to search, I assumed some guys with experience would be willing to help a fellow z owner out. I was not preaching about diy, I was simply responding to your rather ignorant post. I never said I was painting my car, just wondering if there were any off the shelf paints that matched b17 well. For all you know, I am painting a model car to match my z or painting my sons power wheels. I am just wondering if anyone has found an off the shelf that matches close. Now that the baby is asleep, I will have a few minutes to do a search, all help would be appreciated. Thanks, Frank.

Dave the vast majority of my time I have on this forum is done through my phone between sets at the gym. I work long days and commute far, I dont own a computer and generally have very little free time, of which I spend trying to work on my bike, quad or car and at the gym. It is very hard to find time to sit at a computer and search, it is not hard to find time to register and make a post. Having an aerosol paint that matches the color would be fun to play with, I am not 100% sure what I would do, I would have to look at the car and visualize. I appreciate all who considered giving me advice. I will try to find other avenues of information. Frank.
I'm sorry, I love this forum, but this is why I go to 350z or motoring when I need answers.
I don't understand why people feel the need to be so rude to someone asking a simple question.
It takes just as much time to type and tell him "JHBEDBKBFK GO ON GOOGLE, SEARCH U ****ER, DONT BE LAZY"
as it takes to say
"There is no off the shelf equivalent"
On that note, if you want to order paint in a spray can: www.paintscratch.com B17 Daytona Blue, I think a 12.5 oz spray can is about $20.
Most paint stores can also custom mix to match your paint and will put it into a spray can for you at roughly the same price.

I dont have time, but I do not mind using your time to feed me an answer.
If you do not have time to search then how do you expect to DIY? DIY requires lots of time to search, plan and execute.

Forum clutter too!
Your reply about paintscratch.com is useless to the op, he already knows where to go get color matched paint. He was hoping to go to Advance Auto parts and pay $5 a can instead. Guess he doesn't have time to stop by and see though.

No offense, but its impossible to reach a higher level of perfection with a rattle can compared to say me spraying with an Iwata and so on. If this is true, and your shops suck that much. I might have to pack up and move to where you live. There's money to be made.

The original question is so subjective because, no it isn't going to be a perfect match if we tell you a color. Why? Because:
1) Your car's paint is not the same color and finish today that it was the day that it rolled off of the showroom floor.
2) There is no way for us to know how much your paint has changed, faded, etc. since it was manufactured.
3) People have different tolerances/expectations for what they consider as "matches" when it comes to paint.
So that's why this was called out as a "dumb question" - not because you were too lazy to do any searching on your own (which is IMO worthy of a good ribbing), and not because rattle can it generally considered a ghetto/ricer way to go about modding your car (which is usually worth of a good ribbing on here), and not because it is purely subjective and going to be "acceptable" to anyone with low enough standards to match the quality of the paint job.
As a direct response to Truth's responses, I'm not saying that it is impossible to have a decent paint job using a rattle can. However, can you honestly say that you could tell OP a paint code over the internet that is going to match perfectly for his car when you have never seen the guy's current paint? Because that is what he was asking for.

If anything, the comments from the lazy guy's question were interesting.
Fact...the color of your car when its new will change over the years.
I've bought silverstone touch up.Had mix in some othe colors(silver)for a perfect match.
I have done this many times with other cars I've owned. Most times paint off the shelf has to be tweaked.Every once in while you may get lucky.Had a red MG.Red is hard to match. After many mixes of colors I found a can of Krylon banner red.It was perfect!.
Also, spray can paint today is so much better than it used to be.Both the quality of the paint and the nozzles.Still, you cannot do a large panel will a rattle can and give a even finish.Spoilers etc,no problem.
