for body kits.. 3m suggests the use of PT1500 or 5567 or 5390 double stick "acrylic plus" tape

I would go with the acrylic plus. My kit was first attached with the standard gray double-sided tape. You could see the tape if you looked down at a seam line (my car is DB).
When I replaced the kit with the urethane kit, it was attached with the acrylic plus tape (which is black) and adhesion promoter was used. Made a HUGE difference....the seams are almost invisible when you look down on them, and nothing has moved in almost 9 months.

wait a minute...i bought the acrylic foam tape...it basically has all the same features as the acrylic plus and to tell you the truth i cant find the differences
and as far as adhesion promoter goes....i thought that stuff rips off the paint??..did you apply it to the paint..or are you talking about something else....
i am getting the esprit kit and all i really need to tape up is the rear piece to the stock bumper...its attached by bolts also so the tape is only precautionary
im assuming the adhesion promoter is for all surfaces EXEPT the paint?

The bolts will hold the piece on and keep it from falling off...the tape holds it FIRMLY against the original part. Remember the kit is flexible...it will leave a huge gap between the rear bumper and the rear skirt of the kit if no tape is used.
My body shop spoke with the 3M distributor, who recommended the adhesion promoter be used. [If you can find that old thread about the C-West body kit instructions, adhesion promoter is required for those installations, too.]
The adhesion promoter IS put on the existing paint. I think it can be removed with some solution (alcohol/water?) if you want to remove the piece later.
Check the 3M site for info about the adhesion promoter.

i was told that the promoter 6396 used in tandem with the acrylic plus tape will be fine..the promoter is more of an alcohol based cleaner than a paint damaging glue..
