Should be easy as lefty loosey...however if you're not the first owner a previous owner might have glued it down, if you can't break it free easily.

I would take it by a dealer or club member...

Good luck

It's "glued" from the factory. A good method is to have 2 vice grips and some rags. Clamp one set on the shifter itself and the other on the shift **** base. Use the rags to protect the shift boot and **** from getting damaged. Hold the shifter vice grips firmly in place while rotating the shift **** grips counter clock wise. DO NOT try and loosen the shift **** without securing the shifter, you can damage the linkage. Good luck.

The 2 that I've taken off were a pain! I felt like something was going to snap. Here's a helpful link OP:

I remember reading once that the 03 and 04s were the hardest to remove. My 03 was nearly impossible.

I resorted to a medium pipe wrench to get leverage on the kn.ob and used a large vice grip on the linkage to hold it from rotating. It finally busted the glue or thread lock with a large pop, then easily threaded off. This method will destroy the stock kn.ob!

I remember my '05 was impossible to take out. Broke the factory glue and thought I was good... no! Keep on twisting left to where the boot can't twist anymore and the **** isn't out yet... wtf

Reach to the point where I gave up and re-tighten the **** where the boot is back in its original position. Changed my mind and turn it back to the left then back to the right (couple times) then turn it left and boom it's off.

Weird.

As already said, its a huge pain.

Also, as already said, MAKE SURE YOU SECURE THE SHAFT with another set of vice grips... you will cost yourself a sh*t ton more money and problems if you dont do this... I cannot stress enough- use two pairs of vice grips, one on the shifter and one on the shaft. Good luck.

Did the clutch on my 07 a couple months ago and couldn't break it loose. I believe I tweaked the linkage just a bit now my fifth is just off at a slight angle used no vice grips nothing but my juevos as stated above and nothing! I ended up taking the shifter completely off. Now I must realign the linkage.

I've removed a few now, simple as using two hands to turn it. The simple task may become a man card requirement soon.

You have to have a pair of locking pliers on the shift lever under the boot. Not only will it prevent possible transmission problems, but it keeps the shift lever from flexing and moving. If you don't, the shift lever will give a little and flex while you turn. You want all your strength going to the ****, not wasted taking the lever with it.

Lift the shifter panel and get a good grip on the shift lever with locking pliers. Keep it as straight as possible and make sure it doesn't move while you turn the ****. Start off using your hand with a glove on. If you've exhausted that solution, use a rubber strap wrench. DON'T use a normal wrench. It won't grip the ****! It'll just chew it up and make the whole process even worse.

I removed mine easily using a pair of 10" channel locks to secure the actual shifter and turned the **** by hand.

No damage to OEM shift **** = half your $ back from buying aftermarket
