Default What are these holes! (somebody)

I took apart the rear hatch, and for anyone whos done that, you will see at the front most part of the hatch (right behind the seats) the bare metal raises to form a ractangular step up to the cabin area. There are two holes there. Are they safe to covor up with soundproofing (B-quiet's v-comp noise barrier) or are they vents of some sort. It looks like a prime place for some road noise to leak through.

You can see what Im talking about by simply removing the hatch carpet/plastic floor.

Its just an effort to save weight/money.

Putting holes in doesnt compromise the strength but it does mean less material used.

Only about 75%

Guess I shouldve kept my Mouth Shut

If it were me though I wouldnt hesitate to cover them up if it would suit a purpose for me. Logical thought and knowing a good deal about cars tells me that they cant possibly be vents for anything. Maybe they are also for utility. Passing cables through, ect.

My entire hatch is soundproofed. The holes are covered. I have been having trouble breathing lately and have passed out twice while driving the Z. I can't quite figure out what is wrong. Well, I think the holes are safe to cover up. It hasn't done anything negative to me!
