The Z is getting painted at the end of the month due to vandalism as seen here https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-n...was-keyed.html
It's going to be painted the same color and I don't know anything about paint but is it possible to have the shop do a different pearl in the ppw paint that would have more hue's of blue in the right light? Kinda like the car in the pic below. If not it was just an idea...

Looks like a standard pearl white. Shops can do all sorts of paint variations so I'm sure if you go the right shop they'll be able to mix exactly what you're looking for. Shop around and ask to see samples of their work.

I already have a shop that's got me an appointment for the 26th but I am just body shop illiterate. I've seen some Cadillac/Lexus pearl whites that have a really nice blue tint. Is the pearl just an additive to the paint?
Pearl paints are a 3 stage paint process. the first coat is the color coat(the white) and then the pearl which is a transparent coat is sprayed on top of the color coat, and then the clear coat is sprayed on top of all that to make it nice and shiny. and yes we can add any color pearl in it. Nissan pearl is more of a bluish yellow, heavier on the yellow. Cadillac has i think pink/blue. i like the Cadillac but at some angles it looks too pink. talk to your paint tech at your body shop and he will help you. just tell him what color pearls your looking to get and what effect you want.
If i ever get enough time to do my own car i would like to do it in the Lambo balloon white, which has a blueish pearl in it.
paint code would be PPG code: 22409

I would love to have more of a blue tint in the paint. I just feel like since it's an insurance repair job they will only do the stock color. Which I would be perfectly fine with... it would just be cool to have something a little different.

I will ask them... if there is any money left over from the quoted insurance cost I'll tell them to just add the blue/violet pearl in. Most just add it to the clear coat right?
the color you want is a lexus OEM finish. the base colors should be totally differnt than the white pearl from NISSAN tho.. its a gold pearl in nissan, would look terrible imho w blue overtop of it.
If youre going for a full repaint, go w Lexus Glacier Frost White Blue Pearl TriCoat Basecoat clearcoat

Might be best just to stick with the stock PPW then and ask if they can just add more pearl to the paint to give it more luster than going with a different color pearl. If they were to do the Lexus Glacier Frost that would mean the door jams would have to be painted too.
There are several ways to go about this. A legit and up to date shop should have their own mixing station. When making the pearl mix they should be able to substitute pearls. PPW looks like chit to me never liked it. There are several pearls from regular to Xirallic pearls which are more eye popping and expensive. Or you can buy just the pearl yourself from same manufacturer of paint so you won't hear their warranty BS. Have them dump it into the binder mix for the second stage. Might wanna physically be there to see it before they skimp you on pearl. I use to work in automotive paint so it can be done. Some pearls come in dust form and others in liquid.

I'll ask when I go on the 26th what options we can play around with. I want something slightly different but if they can't I wont care either way. It was just an idea a friend of mine gave me and I'll just be happy to have my car fixed.
