Default Shift **** wont come off?

Sometimes I can turn my shift ****. Sometimes I cant. Sometimes I can turn it in one direction. I cant take the shift **** off, because it either doesn't budge after spinning for a while, or I can just keep turning it endlessly... So what I'm guessing is that the threading is broken. This shift **** was in the car when I bought it and its starting to bug me.

Anyone have any ideas on what I could do to get a new shift **** installed, or what parts would I need to buy?

Thanks in advance,

Leon

Is it a stock shift ****?Or,is it all metal?Sometimes heating it will allow removal of the ****.Usually, vise grips on the shaft and a lot of muscle,it should come offYou may have to cut it off(use a Dremel tool) or find a way to "split" the ****.After you get it off, there are adaptors available to install a new **** of your choice.

You won't hurt your trans.

Just turn it till it comes off

Aftermarket Momo Italy shift ****. Metal. Faded. If I power it off Im afraid Ill break the threading even more and wont be able to get ANY **** back on. Right now I can at least drive with it even though it moves. Thats why I want to be prepared with all the stuff Ill need in advance before I try anything. Ill try to put up a video tomorrow.

Wont come off. Will either keep spinning without moving up or down, or will become impossible to turn, depending on the day. And yes, if you just turn the **** and apply force you can damage the transmission

Also did that, the screw is missing. If I get a screw it'll stay in place, but it doesn't bother me, what bothers me is that I cant get it off

Would seem like a smart choice right? Too bad I can't resist that gorgeous nismo CF ****.. I'm a needy child. That's why I turned to you good people for advice on how I can put a new **** on.

I figured as much. But doesn't that mean the actual shifter threading might be damaged as well? Which means I won't be able to get a new **** on. That's what I meant when I asked what all would I need? How hard would it be to replace the actual shifter? Maybe some pricing?

I believe mine only has one. I don't think screws are the problem considering the **** spins, but thanks for the reply

If the **** spins freely, I'd suggest the threaded aluminum insert has come loose inside the ****. It's glued in place, and this happened to one of my Momo ***** once. try pulling the **** straight up with as much force as you can apply, and it may come off. No way the **** has damaged the threads on the steel shifter shaft, so I wouldn't worry about that.

Hmm Ill try it after class. And sweet, that was my main concern. Thanks for the advice.

EDIT: However, I should note that sometimes the **** won't spin. EITHER way. I'l try it anyway.

If you have a small adjustable jar/bottle cap opener, it will fit around the ****’s bottom collar and will provide an amazing amount of grip and leverage to unscrew it. Also a few wraps of electrical or duct tape around the collar and the use of curved jaw pliers will let it know you mean business. Last resort would be to use a Dremel to cut a slot through the thin soft aluminum collar.

Every Momo **** I’ve ever seen has used a rubber spacer sleeve over the shift lever and 3 tiny 2.5mm set screws (hidden under the bottom collar) to lock the kn0b to the rubber sleeve. If for some reason the **** won’t easily come off, place an adjustable jaw wrench under the **** and tap upwards on it with a hammer.
