Default Stock Grill options & opinions

Someone hit me a while ago and had a brand new bumper replaced. The paint shop (uncle friend) painted my whole bumper red. I didn't expect them to paint the grill. I was bummed out because I really like 350z growing up and was used to the grill being black. I didn't want to say anything to them because they hooked me up painting parts free. What surprised me was it looked better than i thought (in person) how it turned out. In picture it looks different. I rather have the grill black though.
Here is what it looks like

I was wondering whats the best way to remove it? scraping it off?
I also looked into car wraps. They would charge me around 80 to get it wrap with carbon fiber/black etc.. because it will take time.

ahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahhaahhahahahahah

ok in seriousness, you and I both know the body shop was just being lazy and didn't mask off the grill, which I dont understand the material cost in paint/clear coat is substantially more than masking tape and some masking paper. With that being said, It won't take too much effort to paint that area black. I WOULD TAKE IT BACK AND DEMAND THEY MAKE IT BLACK, **** what kind of relationship you have business is ****ing business so take it back. if you still don't want to take it back and get it done for FREE. go to autozone/walmart/pepboys and buy a roll of masking tape, some grey scotch bright pads, and a can of black plasti-dip OR some regular automotive black spray paint. scotch bright the area in the grill until its all dull, no need to try and sand everything down black covers really well. then tape it off and put some newspaper around the whole area you're not painting and the rest cover with some garbage bags(tape the garbage bags down and stuff it under the newspaper) and spray spray spray spray. USE thinner and more coats vs thicker and less coats your finish will come out better.

Dont try to remove it, you'll ruin it. Mask and paint with the bumper coating or trim paint, dupli color I think. I would at least ask them to paint it black, thats how its supposed to be. The carbon wrap would look good, but its all up to you.

Honestly, I dont like it one bit all red and would have went thru the roof, but since you say its a friend it was probably a deal made between friends and in reality, you cant look a gift horse in the mouth.

Regardless, its not horrid to correct with a little time and about 10 bux worth of paint and tape, hell, if they are willing ask to help with it and learn some skills.

Honestly, the bumper won't really be the same anymore. Painting it black wont restore the 'OEM look' that you're used to seeing, it'll just make it look cheap. It'll take a good chunk of time and materials to remove the paint and in the process, you risk messing it up more. I would just buy an 06+ bumper painted your color and call it a day. Nice subtle enhancement over the 03-05 and can give your car a slightly newer look. Just my two cents

Oh, and do something about them messing up your bumper, business is business and must be done right.

What

No... Mask it off and paint it. If you are gun shy about messing it up, use plastidip, as it can be removed without damaging anything underneath. Mask off the areas that are painted on OEM bumpers with newspaper and blue painters tape. Then get on youtube and watch some plastidip tutorials.

It is easy to do.

To be blunt, the red grill looks like crap.It really cheapens the look of your Z.
Body color grilles work on some cars. Not on a Z.Yep,change it to black.
Options?As several posts mentioned,spray it black,PlastiDip(YUK!)...
Are you a DIY guy?Do you want something more distinctive? For some labor
and not really much expense, you can put CF overlays on your grill "blades".
Paint the grill edges black. This part can be done with a brush.Or,
Duplicolor Trim Black.
I've done this on my Z.If interested, check my veh. pics.I believe there is a shot
of the grill/front lip that shows the CF on the blades. You'll need some CF
sheets, make a template of the grills and some patience.I used .5mm CF backed
with 3-M 468MP adhesive.The bond is permanent.Check it out.PM me if interested.
I'd be glad to walk you through it.You may think about adding a CF lip.Thats why
I did the blades. To match the lip and the twill pattern.

06+ dawg, just make sure you order the bumper inserts and the reflectors as they are all different.

Dude.

If it were me, I'd mask the bumper off, sand the grill and spray it with bedliner. Some people will make fun of me for saying that. But it will be durable, and no one will ever be able to tell.

Reason I say that is because the grill inserts aren't exactly black, they're a dark gray, more like bare plastic. It's picky shyt lol. Painting it black though would remove that horrid red on the inserts so if OP is looking for a cheap fix then go for it.

Like others said, just make sure you cover it up good with newspaper.

Take it back and have it done right or just save up for a V2 Nismo bumper.
