Thumbs down NRG Harness Bar Review

So, to all those who may have in the past looked at saving some coin and going with the NRG bar and have not seen some posts about it already. I am going to save you ALL THE HASSLE in the world!

It is TRUE junk. Honestly that is enough said.

1. The bar doesn't fit comfortably between the B pillars.
2. Cannot mount the provided support bars.
3. Does not hold it's position as it wants to fall and rest on the speaker housings.
4. The bolts they provided are JUNK!
5 Cross threaded my B pillar bolt mounts, luckily they are replaceable.

To all those who have thought they will go NRG, I highly suggest you save another $200 and get either the Sparco that is specifically designed for the 350, or the Enjuku bar that is provided through Evasive Motorsports. There are tons of other ideas and routes out there, but as far harness bars are concerned, stay away from NRG. I learned my lesson and tried to take a short cut but I have learned a valuable lesson.

Im not sure how this thread will fair or what others input is, but I feel that I should share this story to help save some one the troubles that I have gone through.

Sparco, ordered.

Why not just get a bar made into the roll bar/cage and use that vs adding it to the car?

Get the bar from jasonz the best ever, fits awesome and is very very sturdy.

I got a set from him and it fits perfect and looks awesome esp with fire hydrant and camera mounts.

I don't intend to thread jack here, just a quick question. I will admit I'm a bit of a newb but y'all are talking about a safety harness right? If so can one be fitted with no role cage and the factory seat? If you don't want to mess up this thread feel free to pm me. Cool thread and again not tryin to thread jack.

a roll cage aplication would be a great idea! but for my situation I am 6'5 and need all the leg room i can get, i have test fit the sitting position with a minimal roll cage and it just won't work for me, my simplest solution is go with a harness bar, currently sourcing the Enjuku along with the Saprco.

that bar is pretty slick i do like it that is for sure.

I clearly haven't done my harness bar research and i am hoping that this will help others in the future to not make the same mistake as myself.

You would be better off and safer with a "CG Lock" for your belt esp since you are 6' 5". The problem with a harness and no roll bar to it is that if you roll over you have no where to go and chances are you will either be paralyzed or worse dead. With a CG lock you get very close to the same benefits of a harness as to holding you in place but in the event of accident your body can still move to the side to save your life. Take it with a grain of salt and do what ya want but why risk it.

Because NRG. 'nuff said.

But seriously though, for something that you're trusting your life to, don't cheap out!

through some discussions i am quickly learning that these harness bars are meant to be added with a roll cage? correct me if i'm wrong because i don't want to misslead someone.

But for all intensive purposes my harnesses and harness bar are mainly for show and weekend cruising, i am not attending drift events or racing events, maybe the add weekend at the drag strip but that would be the extent of it, my Z is mainly for show and shine as I am building it.

I bought the cipher bar for 100 bucks. Since its universal like the NRG the support bars dont work. However, they are not needed. Lucky for me everything fit nice and snug. Even did a 50 mph brake check. Solid. Had a 400lbs tongan pull on my harness. Solid.

If thats the case, just throw it in with out a harness bar, don't bother bolting it in and never drive with it on. Of course, scratch the cruising part.

Research what 50 mph to a much faster stop can produce, it will be a lot more than 400 pounds.

I suppose to each their own, honestly if i could fit a roll cage i would go that route, but i can't!

So inorder for me to be able to use what i have in mind i need some way to tie these things off. If done correctly to spec the harness and bar will suit the need of a daily drive just fine according to such companies that produce harnesses and bars. I have been doing some research as to wether or not you need a 4pt roll cage or not and haven't found any conclusive evidence yet to suggest that i need one to be "safe".

I didn't start this "review" topic on this bar to turn into an argument of wether or not you need a roll cage with a harness or if a harness bar is satisfactory enough.

If anyone has some links to proven writeup's and statistics i am more then happy to keep an open mind to keep learning about this topic, but as far as i have researched a harness bar with a harness is fine enough for daily driving.

Please share your links or w.e you may have to help educate myself and others on this topic as i would like to learn more, but as far as i know right now the harness bar with a harness is safe when worn correctly and mounted correctly.
