Here is the image that shimz was referring to, in two parts.

BTW shim, the answer to your question can be found in my profile.

Personally, I think a push-button starter like on the SLR would be groovy and James Bondish. There is a flip on the shifter head, you flip it up by your thumb and then push the glowing button underneath. oooooooh!!!

Imagine the chick-magnet potentials. All you have to do is get the girl in the car, start her (the Z) up, and the rest will be taken care of. Ingenious!!! Buwahhhhh

There is a Z on the front cover of Nopi Performance mag that has a push start button, so i guess it is possible to do.

I have the s2k engine start button on my bimmer, really easy install...I made it so the key has to be in the ignition to prevent theft. But if you were really hardcore about it you could make a hidden engine kill switch, this kind of wiring is extremely easy providing you know what your doing.

shimZ- you do realize that this would actually make it less convenient
the cig adapter in the Z is behind you, so you would have to reach behind you to turn the car on, too much work if you ask me

junglist350Z- how much is pretty cheap?

also, for this to work, would you have to put the key in the ignition , turn on and then push the button? Is there a way to securely bypass using the key?

Default push button starter

Hello everyone, just bought my Z yesterday (datona blue ). I actually was thinking about the push button for my own car because the company I work for has the aftermarket key fob starter. IE when the key fob is inside the car it enables the starter, when you walk away from the car it automaticly disables the starter.

Its exactly like the infinity FX/slr mercedes, its pretty cool. Basicly what im going to do is install a push button on the dash instead of my ignition, when im in the car its one button and BAM, Z goodness and I dont have to worry about theft issues.

similair system on the SL500 and other cars Im sure.
actually we have an fx35 with the tech package. To my knowledge its the same system in the 45. Its called intelligent key. It knows when you have the key etc.

However, there's still a twist of a plastic thing where the key used to go.
Yep!

No push-button starting.

I guess it may be poss to retrofit as the whole assembly is set up almost the same as it would be if there was a key.

If you guys want this in your car I can supply the system to do it. It doesnt unlock the doors but there is a starter kill that is enabled or disabled when you get in or out of the car. All you would need is the ignition button directly wired to the ignition. When you in the car it starts when your out it wont.

Its a small plastic device (size of 4-5 nickles stacked together) that goes on your keychain
