Courtesy Emblems - Install Questions
I have attempted to install the Courtesy Emblems with the new 3M tape. The emblems are not sticking 100 percent to the surface of the Z.
I have review previous threads for advice but still would like to hear if anyone's emblems are adhering well to the car completely.
If so, please let me know the technique you used to install the emblems (clean surface, heated, waxed).
thanks
peter

Are these the ones you are referring to?
If so, I just used the tape that came with the emblem. Just peeled and stuck it on. It's been there around a year and no problems so far. No special method but I don't think you want to wax the paint before you put it on. I just cleaned the area with alcohol to remove the last of the old adhesive.

Bonz is right......prep is everything! After removing the stock emblem, I used Goo Gone to get the old adhesive off. I then wiped down the entire indentation with alcohol and then water. THEN I stuck the new one on, using the included tape.
A lot of people are just putting them on, and the area has wax on it from the areas that are cut out around the Nissan burger. Furthermore, glue on glue won't stick as well......you have to get the old glue off before sticking the new emblem on.

How did you guys get the original Nissan emblem off? It's on pretty good wouldn't one scratch off the paint underneath if one uses a flathead screw driver?
Thanks.

The key is to get the existing Nissan emblem warm first. I did mine in the summer so I just parked the car in the sun for a while to accomplish this. If it is cool out, you can use a hair dryer to warm up the emblem.
Next, I used some fishing line to sort of "saw" at the edge of one side of the emblem to get it to lift a bit. (some say to use dental floss but this kept breaking on me)
Once there was a gap on one side created by the fishing line thing, I used a plastic spatula (like you would use with a teflon pan) and put the front edge of it in the gap and started gently prying up. It is a good idea to put some masking tape (that 3M blue painters tape is very good to use as it peels off easily) on the bumper where the spatula would touch as I was prying up. This prevents scratches.
Once the emblem was up a bit on one side, I just grabbed it with my fingers and pulled it off. There will be glue residue on the body at this point. You can get most of it off by "rolling" it with your finger tips. The rest of the residue can be removed with a variety of things. I used 3M Adhesive and Wax Remover, which I found in the automotive department of Wal-Mart. This stuff is great to prep the surface before putting on the new emblems. I haven't had a problem with the new emblems sticking and they have been on for over 6 months.
Installing the front emblem is easy because of the indentation. You know where to put that one. The rear emblem sits on a smooth surface with no indentation to guide you. Before I removed the rear emblem, I used the 3M blue painters tape and put four strips around the existing emblem. Top, bottom, right side and left side. Then I made a mark on the tape at the center points of the existing emblem. Again, center top, center bottom, center right and center left. Once I had the old emblem off, the tape with the marks was a guide for me when positioning the new emblem.
Once you put on a new emblem, hold pressure on it for a good two minutes or so. Also, do not allow them to get wet for a couple of days. This will give the adhesive a chance to set up properly and give you a long lasting trouble free installation.
You will find a ton of other methods by doing a search for "Courtesy emblems" or Z emblems. The method I described above worked fine for me.

Thanks for the detailed instructions! The Z emblem looks much better than Nissan in my opinion and will order a set today.
