umm he just told you the exact same thing i did. it's not compatible and not really worth trying to retrofit your $50 aftermarket hid kit. buy the correct ballasts/bulbs/igniters for the housing.

New to this forum and just installed a pair of these on my '06 350z and wanted to share my opinion.

You can tell they are not made at OEM quality but I have no complaints. They look good, everything fit well and installed just like the OE's with no problems.

My OEM lights were not in bad shape, no yellowing, scratches or cracks and with my same used hardware switched over to these I do notice for sure my lights are brighter and better focused then before.

They complemented my Interlagos Fire metallic body color, satin black rims and door handles quite well, I think. Very happy with them so far. Will see how well they hold up over time.

I've read through the entire thread but I just want to double check : I have a 2003 touring, if I were to buy these Depo headlights then the only other things I would need to get are D2S bulbs? I saw someone else recommend STi-R Kit and Sylvania 3357A, but I'm not sure if they're required / what the benefits are. I would be having a mechanic install them for me and wanted to make sure I'd be able to give him everything he needs.

I contacted The Retrofit Source about the exact same thing above. I have a 2003 Touring and will be swapping all of my equipment over to the depot lights. They responded with the following:

Hi Darren

Thanks for your inquiry and patience waiting on a response here. Your older 350Z requires the D2R bulbs, but because the stock ballasts don't like aftermarket bulbs, we recommend only OEM bulbs. We don't sell these currently, but I would look for the Philips 85126+ D2R bulbs.

Please let us know if we can answer any other questions or be of any additional assistance.

Thanks again Darren!

I would like to get an answer from someone who has done this from a 2003.

If you read the thread you should know the answers.

You need the D2S bulbs. Your stock HID's are D2R so you can't swap them over.

You need 2 3357A bulbs, brand isn't that important. Sylvania just makes a better quality bulb IMO.

The STi-R kit is the projector lenses which would help, but I doubt your mechanic will want to pull the housing apart to swap the lenses. Just have to check with him on that one.

Also with this the turn signal will be lit when you have your lights off as a daytime running light. If you don't want it cut or unpin the blue wire on the headlight housing harness or remove the correct pin from the bulb.

D2R is for 03-05 housings. D2S is for 06+ housings. D2C fits both.

The Depo 06+ style black housings use D2S or D2C.

So we should be able to swap over all internals from our 03 HID system ballasts, ignitors. ect.. excluding bulbs, and then purchase D2S bulbs and this will work?

Yes. There are many threads on it. I did my research and found all the answers on this forum.

Pull the 03-05 housing out of your car, pull the ballast and igniter off, leave the little ground strap on the housing as you don't need it for 06+.

Take the 06+ housing, install new D2S bulbs, put the igniter on and install the ballast. Put new turn signal bulb in and you can swap the marker light across. I put LED's in my little marker light instead of keeping the stock bulb.

Call me a noob/idiot but if I were to follow step by step instructions from a video online on how to swap headlights, would I be able to install these on my 2003 touring without majorly ****ing anything up? It seems pretty straightforward, but I have no knowledge of working on cars, and wouldn't want to waste money having someone do it for me if it's easy.

To me the hardest part is removing the bumper and thats really not hard if you know where the bolts are and right tools to reach them, but I work on Z's everyday.

If you know how to follow a diy guide, how to use a ratchet, and careful it's hard to mess anything up. If unsure of yourself, have someone do it.

The hardest part of the swap is adjusting the lights.

First they were too low, then they were too high, then they were too low, then they were too high.....

I wish I had a flat place I could pull up to a wall and measure.

All it takes is a flat surface and a white garage door or wall and a long phillips screw driver to reach the adjusting wheel. I have all the distances printed out at work off All Data for exactly how far away to have car and then measurements for vertical and horizontal allowed adjustments from center point. I can post them later if need. Its not too bad, just want to make sure lights are installed straight because I believe to adjust left and right the 4 housing mounting 10mm bolts have to be loosened to move it left or right as needed.

I mounted mine same spots as factory ones and left and right were good only had to bring one up and the other down which is simple to get to with long phillips car fully assembled.

That's the problem. Nothing around here is flat....

I brought it up here to work but at the distance from the wall it needed to be the surface changed from concrete to asphalt and wasn't level. I ended up just pulling up behind a random car in a parking lot and adjusted it using their back bumper.

No one's garage you could back into thats deep maybe? Headlights should be 32.8ft back from the wall when aligning.

Will these work fine with the blacked out depo headlights ? http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/350z04a/33-2037 was originally going to get Sylvania 3357A but I think it will match everything better without the orange-ness. You don't have to open the headlight housing for turn signal bulbs, correct?

They will work and you can replace them without opening the housings, but it's not worth the money IMO. I would go LED before spending that much money on a regular bulb.
