I have a friend of a friend who wants to sell me his CF hood. I don't know the brand but I know it's not Seibon. He didn't use it much and it's been in storage so it's in really good shape. It's the kind that has 3 vents on each side of the hood. He wants 400.00 for it...
My question, is this a no-no for 350's? My Z is silver stone and I think it would look pretty nice.
Opinions??

I would keep your OEM hood and swap them out when you feel like it - that way you're not stuck with either hood. Typically these fiberglass/carbon fiber inlay hoods are slightly heavier than OEM so don't expect to drop any weight.
I think it's ricey if it's done wrong. So if the hood is in anything BUT brand new condition I would pass it up for $400, if he is flexible (ie $250 to $300) on price than it might be worth it...

I never sell stock parts....ever. I haven't seen it yet I'm basing it on what he told me. Ill see it over the weekend.
I don't think CF is rice. It really just depends if it flows with the rest of your car. I went painted OEM because I don't have any other CF parts on my car.
If you don't have any other exterior additions to your Z, but you add a really aggressive hood (CF or not), it's going to stand out and people are going to call it rice. I say, you like the hood and it's a good a deal, buy it and keep it until you have the other parts to make it fit. If it's a really great deal, and you don't give a f*ck...buy it, install it, and let the haters hate.
My .02, take it or leave it.

I think the '350z' reputation, as a whole, is a direct representation of what we do and how we drive our cars…
just ask yourself - do we need more or less of this guy

Thanks guys...
Yes we need less of that guy....much less.
I don't need a vented hood, I just thought it might look good. The problem is a lot of the pics I see on the Internet look terrible. They always looked "riced out" in every sense of the word....
I don't know I'll see how it all plays out.

Its rice if either 1) it fits like crap or 2) the rest of your car can't pull off an aggressive, attention-grabbing hood. I wouldn't change the hood unless other body pieces are aftermarket. I'm a firm believe in doing exterior work from the ground up.

alright so you have the same hood I have then... the silverstone with two ridges from front bumper to windshield. Do you really want to replace it, or is this just a "good deal" that came along. I'm not going to bash you if you decide to go with it.... I would never put that on my car though.
