hid ballast trouble shooting
so, this weekend i figured id try to trouble shoot my hid ballast but before i get into the issue ill give you some background.
got into a little incident that damaged the passenger side front bumper , after sometime ( maybe several months) my bulb went out on the passenger side. i replaced the bulb ( took sometime before it actually kicked in ) and everything is fine. Then a few weeks maybe couple months later, my light wasnt going on so i tapped my headlamp and it kicked in , then couple days later while driving in the rain my light went out, and here we are today.
so i checked fuses and i did not find the headlight fuses so i checked every fuse, they checked out fine so i bought new bulbs again and the left side wouldn’t work ( i played with it as the last time it took awhile for the light to kick in) and still nothing! Swapped the ballast from the driver side to the passenger side no light i unplugged it plugged it back in , now we have light! Although the driver side did not work now.So i figured the ballast was bad, right!?
My car sat over the weekend figured id buy a ballast.we had rain last night till this morning and this morning as i turned on my lights to check on it , now im not getting any light.
so whats the issue here...sounds like water it damaging the ballast but its sealed!? and i was not driving my car so how could water get kicked inside the headlight or ballast!?

just checked it again....and the light is now working ( rain stopped)
now that i think of it the passenger side ballast did have some corrosion on the pins connecting to the ballast from the socket...and also on the screws that held the socket cable down(driver side did not) ...deff getting water or condensation build up...
I read somewhere that the orings should be replaced after opening to change your bulbs...in this case i am not going to turn on my lights until i can get some silicone and start to seal every crevice , hopefuly this solves my issues.
i will later post the outcome after purchasing a newer ballast for the one that died.

almost forgot about the update ...
so the issue ended up being a crack on the back of the headlight .
i tried sealing it with no luck and burning out another ballast. my only other option was to buy a new headlight...since i want the quality of the headlights to be uniform i will have to buy 2 new headlights.
so in the mean time instead of replacing ballast after ballast i upgraded from 35 watt to morimotos 55 watt which is water resistant .
i also converted the morimotos into a plug and play by pulling out the dongles from the oem ballasts so the factory harness can plug into it.
