Mounting fiberglass spoiler
As the title suggests, I need some advice on mounting a fiberglass spoiler. I recently purchased a JP Vizage Type A rear wing but have no clue on how to mount it. Double sided tape runs along all points that contact the body, and the previous owner said he used rivets, if I recall correctly... I have no experience using rivets, and it looks fairly difficult to get a rivet in anywhere there is 2 layers of metal, except near the side edges of the hatch where the underside meets the outside metal layer.
I'm thinking 3M body trim double sided tape all along contact points and in the rear part of the spoiler where the lip is that covers the Nissan and 350z emblems, possibly some screws and cap them off. Double sided tape alone doesn't seem like enough to hold this somewhat heavy spoiler to the body, though there are not mounting points for screws on this spoiler anywhere.
Anyone with experience on mounting this spoiler or larger fiberglass spoilers without any mounting screws please chime in. Thanks in advance!

well the wing is FRP, so fiberglass and poly. you will more than likely have to drill your hatch, there should be mounting points with metal threaded inserts in the wing somewhere. i just bought a Vertex wing, but it is fiberglass and only like 5 pounds so i am just going to 3m tape it, just waiting for it to get warmer so the tape will stick better
I would not mount this size wing with just 3-M tape.
Is this a real JP spoiler or a replica?
If its authentic,it should have come with both tape&hardware(bolts).
It would seem that there would be bolt inserts in the underside of the spoiler.
These should be positioned to where there are openings between the rear deck
supports. The factory 350z spoiler mounts through these openings. You indicate that
there was a previous owner. Its a used spoiler. He used rivets?
If it were me,and there is no bolt inserts on the spoiler,I would remove the underside
panel from the deck and measure where the openings are for the bolts. You will need to
make a template of the underside of the spoiler with the correct position of the holes.
Purchase some female bolt inserts to go into the fiberglass with correct bolts,
preferably in stainless steel.Add washers for the underside bolt heads. You will have to
drill 2 holes for the bolts in the deck.Install the spoiler making sure there is tape around
the entire perimeter.I'd add some caulk or silicone sealer to the holes in the deck.
Be sure to clean the surface of the deck well-remove all polish etc-with rubbing alcohol.
With the current cold weather, heat the tape well with a hair dryer before peeling
off the backing and also, heat the deck surface before installing.
Slap the under deck covering back on -you are done!

I honestly don't know how to tell genuine JP from knock off, but there is a JP logo imprinted under the fiberglass on the inside of each body piece I got. It looks just like the JP Vizage Type A kit and the pieces seem to fit very well.
There aren't any bolt holes in the spoiler, just some small holes where I believe rivets went to hold this spoiler onto the hatch.
If I can find some female inserts I should be able to install this spoiler fairly easily.. Thanks for the help!
Unlike many posts which end up without photos of the end result, I will post photos once I get the inserts mounted and how I mounted them, as well as how I mounted it to the Z
Here are the undersides of the spoiler. The back of the spoiler is at the top of the photo, obviously. As you can see, there are no mounting holes, simply tape all the way around, and you can catch the JP logo in the first photo.
Tried mounting inserts under that little lip near the front of the spoiler, but I think wide washers JB welded with nuts in place would work best to disperse the force, versus these small inserts.. Of course I could fill the area around with body filler but I don't think that stuff would work that well and I would have to use quite a bit, adding weight.

I believe the body shop that installed it used wood screws to hold it on, and yes it is real JP. We gave him crap about that monstrosity for 6 years and he finally removed it.
