Asuka Type II Vs. Seibon TS
Hey guys, I plan on painting my car and I figured while I'm add it I might as well throw a new hood on. The two I really like are the Seibon TS hood and the Asuka Type 2 hood. I'm still kinda on the fence though, leaning a bit more towards the asuka. As well, I'm not into the full CF hood look, so I plan on getting them painted along with the rest of my car. So my next question is should I do a fully silverstone paint on the hood or should I do a partial paint (only on the seibon hood) and have the vents left raw CF w/ the rest of the hood silver? I'd appreciate some input guys.
Currently my car is a 2006 silverstone enthusiast. It's got a nismo v2 rep w/ a CF lip, CF chargespeed sides sitting in the garage, Blacked out headlights, CF damd diffuser, and half carbon blitz replica spoiler.

Personally I have always liked the partially painted ts ones. They still retain the Hr stock style but have the sick looking CF vents. The asuka hoods have always reminded me of the S2000s. ( not necessarily a bad thing though)

Yeah I've heard, that's what my main concern with the seibons are. :/ Then again, I am located near the Seibon HQ. Maybe if there's bad fitment they'd be willing to exchange me for one that fits right if I have that problem?

lol yeah, but in the past I've had some good experience with them so I'll call them tomorrow and see what they say.
And damn you guys. xD So far it's a tie between the hoods...I appreciate the input though guys. Seibon's fitment is known for being hit or miss, didn't know about the clear coating though, thanks.
RUNWDVL - That's a nice hood but I don't think my setup is aggressive enough for it. Nice suggestion though.

Talked to Seibon and I asked them about fitment problems. They said "As long as your installer knows what he is doing the fitment should be just about perfect.
If we can determine any factory defects or issues of course we can help you out."
So I guess they'd be willing to help out if there's some major issues, but I'm assuming that if there's anything minor they'd probably just blame the person who put the hood on...

I came across a brand new VIS carbon fiber hood in a trade. After it sitting in my garage for a couple of weeks I thought I'd test fit it....not even close. It was off to the drivers side by a few inches. It would have taken a lot of work to make it fit. Hopefully yours will fit better.

I think I'm definitely going with the seibon hood at this point.
I found one for as low as ~$550 located in Cali but they said I couldn't pick it up directly from seibon and that I couldn't pick it up directly from them either. Kinda weird. They said I HAD to have it shipped. They also didn't have a phone number or office. I had asked seibon to price match with them and a few other vendors I found but they told me that these other vendors weren't "authorized" vendors so I'm just going to go directly through seibon.
Should be here in 6-8 weeks.
Also, would I need hoodpins for this hood or no? I've heard people running without them but other people getting their windshields smashed up. Input?

If fitment is right, then you shouldn't have any problems. Typically if a hood doesn't fit properly, a vortex will force the hood up and cause much unwanted damage.
But some people like peace of mind. Good luck!
Also, just learned that Seibon does not weld the latch so I'm leaning towards yes.

Ah alright cool, I might as well get it then because knowing my luck I'm going to have my windshield get cracked and I'm gonna be kicking myself for buying the stupid little hood pins. Really appreciate the input.

Definitely a smart move getting them. I have the same hood you're getting sitting in my garage to be installed and I'm going to order hood pins for it. Even if fitment is perfect you still have constant stress on the latch which is attached to the hood with an epoxy. I don't trust this epoxy the way I trust the aluminum welds on our factory hood.
Edit: and for the record, I'm leaving it unpainted and having a body shop lightly sand it and apply a fresh clear coat to it for UV protection. I don't mind the CF look depending on the color of the car and in my case I think the CF will accent the san marino blue nicely. Then later on if I want some change or if it starts getting beat up looking I'll have it color matched with the vents remaining CF.

Late seeing this. Ofcourse I am partial to the Asuka as I have it.
The first pic posted is very nice though. If the hood latch is done well, there is no need for hoodpins.
I got the Asuka hood from Litoflow which he had the latch molded in and it is solid and I have not worried about it holding.
Voted the TS partially painted since it seems you ordered it already.
