Default opinions on paint color

I'm about to paint my car and torn between 2 colors and wanted to get some outside outside, my car is silver now and will have the msa-7 front and amuse style sides and rear. The 2 colors in mind are Deep Blue Pearl from the GTR or Satin Gunmetal color that Nismo has been using on the GTR, 370Z, and juke at car shows lately. I also have a CF double hump roof, I have not seen either color on a 350Z before so it's kinda hard to imagine how either will look. Thanks for any insight...

Are you pulling the motor to paint everything so it matches or just the outside? If just the outside then go gunmetal since it's closer to silver than blue. If you're doing everything then go blue. If you don't care if the bay matches then go blue.

Not pulling the engine at the moment, but I could take of the engine bay later on if I ever did. That does however help push me more toward the gunmetal...

Just depends on the overall look you want.

I'd go blue, as I love San Marino Blue on a Z, so a deep blue would have to look similar to that.

A gunmetal grey could look very classy as well with the right wheels...I've always wanted to see the Z in a dark charcoal metallic personally.

Gun Metal would let you do some tasteful decals, but blue will look more sporty and "up" in terms of vibe I think.

Definitely please share a few pics once your car is painted...sounds like it will be beautiful either way..would love to see it.

What rims by the way?

Just googled the GTR in satin gunmetal...

honestly?....I'd say blue no question now...that color is too dead looking, especially satin....has no highlights to make the car's lines standout as light doesn't reflect off the satin...looks flat and boring.

Not criticizing, just sharing my own opinion honestly. I think you'd grow tired of the satin look, especially when that shade isn't so distinct in and of itself.

After looking at several pictures I decided the Z does look dull with satin paint, so instead I'm thinking Dark Metal Grey from the GTR. It's a cool color, I have a love-hate relationship with blue, I like it but every time I would work on the car, or go under it, or remove an interior panel I would see the silver paint. I think that would bother me to no end, and grey tends to look better with carbon fiber than dark blue. I don't have wheels at the moment but I would most likely get some gold wheels, or bronze. I'll post some pics when it's done.

I think you'll be glad you skipped the satin look.

Quick thought that might help...if you like blue but just really are hating the silver panels...then just use a dark shade of plastidip on the silver areas. The dark would blend in with the blue and if you made a mistake with the masking it's an easy fix.

The grey will look really classy though if that's what you want. The dark grey metallic plastidip would work with the grey gtr paint as well of course.

Hope that helps,

Looks like our OEM Silverstone, which is not a bad thing

What color was the car prior?

Good choice!
Just a bit darker than OEM Silverstone.
Definitely like it!

Car was liquid aluminum before, doors were sprayed in and out, the only thing that wasn't done was the engine bay. I'll take care of the bay later on.
I knew someone would mention wheels lol, I did buy some cheap ones for now that I will put on in the spring. I have a little left to pay off the car so I want to take care of that before I spend any major money on wheels.

Funny enough, I like to mess with myself by saying in my head that it looks like Silverstone... But in reality they look nothing alike, this color is highly pearlescent and will look highly dark or light depending on the lighting. It usually takes the average car enthusiast less than 5 mins before they ask me "that's not the factory color is it" it's easy to notice if you've been around 350z cars for a while.
