Default Interior Lighting

I took delivery of my "Z" last Saturday and two things are bothering me #1 I think the dome lights are way too bright and#2 the radio display is way too dim. When I adjust the instrument lights to a non distracting level the radio desplay is very hard to see. Does this bother any one else? and are there any fixes? Would also like to see some foot well lighting

Nope, I upgraded the stereo, cause the stock one sucks. And I think there is a Nissan part for the footwell lighting.

yes, there is a JDM part for the lighting for the footwell, but it costs about $100+. I dont know if its worth it.

I am going to rig up a nice interior kit, which will be a hell of alot less, just trying to figure out the best way to do it pretty and easy to install. and of course, the cheapest method. let you guys know if/when I figure it out.

Hmm.. the interior dome lights are bright for a reason. Maybe you can get lower wattage bulbs. The Luxeon dome lights I have blind people.

Well, that's what the get for looking up. :-P

why dim the dome lights? I dont understand that. their only on when you want something to be lit up. Id go with the lower wattage bulb, or just get a cheapy LED bulb, that should be dimmer

I ordered some festoon bulbs and 921sockets, when those get to me Ill be working on all that as well. along with the turn signal I still havent figured out. lots to do so little time.

now the dash/radio thing I agree and have noticed it, the radio being farther away and smaller is hard to read at the dimmer levels.

I'm doing a short run on my windscreen lights and footwell lights. They're not true production ready units yet, but good enough...

OK the dome lights; My wife wanted to read while we was driving down I5, black out side, and just the pasenger light was so bright we both were distracted by its brightness. It would be nice to have something like a reading spot on an airliner, ya know. Can you recomend a bulb? Can the radio light be isolated from the dash dimming switch? This would help.I like your lighting ideas please keep me informed
Thanks RON

Do you have an '04 with the 12V outlet up front? Actually, you could probabyl use the outlet inthe back. Why not jsut get one of those 12V LED flexible lights and use it so she can read?

There are millions out there.... Leave your domelight alone

I actually didn't think the dome lights were that bright. In fact, I'd want to buy an LED alternative to get a brighter light.

Sorry about "exuming" a dead-thread but has anyone figured out a way to change out the dash and dash-gauge lights from orange to another color?? I think a dark blue (VW Jetta style) would look nice with my Daytona Blue exterior/charcoal leather interior. My new Eclipse AVN2454 double DIN nav/mp3/cd/dvd has green lights which is OK with blue, but weird with orange. Thanks...peace all!!
