As the title suggests I am asking to see if anyone on the page has made their own custom backplates to cover their headlights from water coming off the tires.
I have an aftermarket front bumper so my wheel well covers dont stay on anymore so now the back of my headlights are getting soaked by my tires, leading to water getting into my headlight, and possibly if left unattended will do damage to the wiring.
I am thinking of using a piece of alluminum to cover just the headlights themselves however im not sure where i could mount it to keep it from rubbing against the tires, any thoughts or assistance would be much appriciated
Without fender liners, your headlights will get water inside whenever it rains. You really need to figure out some way to get the fender liners to stay in place. They are your only protection from getting water in the headlights.
You might consider trying the plastic liners from the '07-08 Z33s. They are a bit wider and fit differently than the '03-'06 models. Two other advantages are they were factory engineered for the Z33 and will use the clips in the wheelwell, and they're made of urethane, which won't cut your tire down when they come loose.
No iideadeyeii, but i am looking into getting aftermarket ones which is why i am trying to fix this issue before i get them.
I will look into the fender liner from th 06 models though dkmura.
I ended up custom making some fender liners out of thin aluminum
sheets. Couldn't be happier, they look way nicer then the stock, they don't rub or tear apart, and the work perfectly to keep water from my headlights
