The photos below show a disconnected red wire with a silver spot at the plug into the SRS airbag sensor, under the center console. The sensor has been removed from my car, so the plug is not going to anything. Coincidentally my fuel gauge is not reading at all, so I'm hoping this is not contributing to that. Can anyone identify this wire?
You don't identify the year and model car you have, but the SRS sensor unit is pretty standard across all models.
Wiring diagrams are in the Service Manual, which you can download free. I strongly recommend everyone get one and refer to it before posting their questions. All that aside, the red wire to pin 1 on the connector is the power lead. Cutting the wire has the same effect as pulling fuse 13; it disables the entire SRS. As a result, the airbag light on your dash should be illuminated continuously. It should have no effect on your fuel gauge.
